Synopsis

The Mechanic
Seasoned hitman Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) sets out to avenge the brutal murder of his mentor, Harry (Donald Sutherland), and finds himself joined by Harry's vengeful son (Ben Foster), who is eager to follow in his late father's footsteps, in this remake of the 1972 action thriller starring Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent. Harry taught Arthur how to be a detached killer who always hits his mark. Now Harry is gone, and for the first time in Arthur's career it's about to get personal. As lone-wolf assassin Arthur prepares to hunt down Harry's killers, he is approached by his fallen mentor's vengeful son, Steve, who is eager to take up the lethal tools of his father's trade. Unadept at working with a partner yet compelled to help Steve carry on the family tradition, Arthur agrees to take him on as a protégé. Later, the duo begins to methodically eliminate their targets, forging a partnership born of blood with each new hit. The closer Arthur and Steve get to the name at the top of their list, however, the more apparent it becomes that his job will be anything but business as usual. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Whether you are a Jason Stratham fan or just an action junkie, this is a fantastic movie. For a hit man to stay alive obviously he must use his wits and know what he's doing and Stratham plays this one all out. Stratham plays this hit man as you expect one to be: brooding and secretive yet totally aware of everything that goes on around him. Past movies like Death Race showed the same drive, but this one is his best ever. Good writing, and even good acting make this one great from beginning to end. At just over 90 minutes, I wanted it to go on....

I hated this movie so much I swapped the dvd for a $5 credit towards a blu ray from best buy. Needlessly gratuitous unfunny depictions of women for INAPPL LANG FLAGGED/or as INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE FLAGGED.. Lots of gratuitous killing. Unlikeable - no one in the script was likeable - I didn't care about any of them. Crank was at least funny. What a waste of Donald Sutherland. Last time I buy a Jason Statham movie I think, unless its getting really good buzz and I've seen it for free first. I quite liked the extra discussing the descent from building stunt. I wish I'd watched something else/never bought it.

This movie totally gets the thumbs up because the plot is so cliche. Given the plot is very predictable, the story resolution dissapoints the viewer into an action movie that is realisitic, not the action sequyences but the reality of this movie is about one thing. The Mechanic. The plot being cliche for the previews, predictable bad guys getting their just desserts, and unbelievable action make this movie likeable because it doesn't stray from the title: The Merchanic

I bought this movie because I have enjoyed watching Jason Statham in other action movies, but I was a little dissapointed in this one. Maybe it was because I enjoyed the 1972 version with Charles Bronson or maybe it was because the plot was a little thin, not sure... Either way the movie was good but not great as long as your expectations for a detailed plot line are not too ambitious.

I am a huge Charles Bronson fan and love the original Mechanic directed by Michael Winner, but this remake is superior in several ways. Ben Foster as the protégé, Donald Sutherland as the mentor and father and Jason Statham as the Mechanic. Now they did change the ending and that was a bit of a cheat but overall a superior film to the original in almost all aspects.

The Mechanic not to be mixed up with the Charles Bronson version, it has some similarities with original the story. It has great action scenes, and a great story line, the cast Jason Stratham as The Mechanic and Ben Foster as his apprentice do a wonderful job of drawing you into this fast moving action movie, a must get DVD or Blu-ray to add to your collection

Well, they couldn't beat the old one, which I wouldn't buy, but it is what it is. Language, big time violence and no one is good. I wouldn't let any teen see it as it doesn't need to be in their brains. Our kids are already bombarded with ugly situations and don't need this.

This movie totally lacks the charm and great execution of the real movie W/ C Bronson. The story has been re-written, to it's detrement. I like Stratham, but that does not make up for a poorly done movie. Watch the original and then move on to Mechanic Resorected, which was good.
