    Synopsis

    The Rover
Guy Pearce stars in this post-apocalyptic Western about a lone-wolf drifter who joins forces with a wounded man to pursue a sadistic band of thieves. A decade after the collapse of the western world, Australia has become a lawless wasteland. As desperate outsiders pillage the country's precious mineral resources, taciturn Eric (Pearce) travels from town to town searching for signs of life. Then, one day, Eric falls prey to vicious thieves who steal his car. In the process of making their getaway, the thieves abandon Rey (Robert Pattinson), their wounded partner in crime. Meanwhile, Eric vows to reclaim his most-treasured possession by whatever means necessary, and forces Rey to help him track down the men who left him for dead. Scoot McNairy and David Field co-star in this grim tale of revenge from writer/director David Michôd (whose script for the 2010 crime drama Animal Kingdom took the Best Screenplay prize at that year's Australian Film Institute awards). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A great performance by Guy Pearce defines this film. Such a personal piece of film-making, a journey through a wasteland undefined which is more likely than most post apocalyptic type of films. Robert Pattinson is in a possibly career-changing role, definitely far from what you have seen him in in the past. If you are into character studies or post apocalyptica, this one's for you. Highly recommended and easily one the best movies I have seen in 2014.

A somewhat quirky movie that will keep you guessing right up to the closing scene. Great acting by the two headline stars as well as the other players. It almost put me off, but there was something haunting about it. As you begin to comprehend the grim yet believable post apocalyptic world being offered, you will wonder what you might do or encounter at such a time and place.

I was waiting for this movie to come out in theaters but was unable to see it as there were select showings. I was able to pick this up at Best Buy for a decent price with a coupon. Overall teh movie was pretty awesome and Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson were great together. Guy Pearce is an intense actor and he's definitely an underrated actor for his abilities.

David Michôd's brilliant post-apocalyptic drama The Rover is easily one of the best films of 2014, an uncompromising tale of humanity at its bleakest. Nobody viewed this film in the theater which is essentially crimes against cinema - now's the chance to see a young, major filmmaker doing serious, unrestrained, auteur-inspired work. More extreme love for A24

I'd give this one 3.5. I thought Guy Pearce was really outstanding in this movie, but I didn't really care for Robert Pattinson's character. I liked the tone and vision that the filmaker set in this outting (10-years post world economic collapse).

just feels like the movie never really lived up to the potential, apparently the guy was so attached to his car that he kills everyone at a military facility and doesn't take a single weapon or other resource , seemed illogical at times

Without getting too far into spoiler territory, this film is about loyalty. It's a bleak tale, but not without some humor. The performances are excellent, and the story is captivating. Highly recommended!

This slow burner, shot in Australia, is impressive in its simple approach to storytelling. The acting is great from Pierce and the violence comes in short bursts but is realistic. Slow but well done.
