Description
SynopsisIn the year 2012, the era of the nation-state is drawing to a close. The nations of the future increasingly have turned to private military companies, also known as PMCs, to aid in their defense. These elite mercenaries provide clear benefits to the nations that engage them, but they also tend to take a rather lax view of the law. Even so, the Reykjavik Accords have authorized the PMCs' right to serve in every aspect of military operations. As the PMCs' role is further legitimized and their influence grows, concerns have begun to mount. Have the PMCs been granted too much power? And, if so, what will the consequences be for the world?Tom Clancy's HAWX puts you in the pilot's seat for revolutionary aerial combat action in an all-too-realistic world of the near-future. Engage in intense high-altitude warfare, complete with cutting-edge technology and devastating firepower. Become an elite pilot of the future through use of the game's unique Enhanced Reality System, which provides a incredibly realistic flight experience, including radars and incoming missile detection, weapons trajectory control, an anti-crash system and more. The modelling of the planes in this game is absolutely incredible, as is the environement. The control scheme and handleing of the airplanes are the best that I have seen in quite some time. The game lacks the realism of blackouts and fuel consumption and ammo capacity. I think that is ok since I was not looking for a flight simulator and it keeps game play simple and enjoyable for us non-pilot fanatics. The one thing that stoped me from giving it a perfect 5 was the lack of realism in the speed of the planes. Aside from that this is a really good flight action game. I am very happy I got this one.

This game isn't the kind of action-packed shooter game that you would want but for an airial fighting combat game you have to give it its props. It is really cool when you are flying because you can choose to have the view from the cockpit or from like 10 feet away. Its very complicated at first because you are trying to figure out how to do what but you catch on. I think this game isn't worth what they are selling it for but it is still a good game to have if you're in the mood for it.I have to say though, not the best game you're ever going to play. There are many planes and different missions that take you on a ride while flying high.

How is this game good?

Ill start with flight characteristics. You cannot fly slower than 500knots in any plane and when you go from 500 to say 2000 there is absolutely no difference in flight except that its a little harder to turn. When you go 2000 it still seems your are going 500. Dog fighting is non existent as you cannot really even see the other planes unless your really close, even then it seems like a UFO. Unlimited missiles? Give me a break thats so arcadeish! There is 0 sense of realism in this game and it reminds me of a game I played for xbox back in 2000. basically the same exact game but with a little better graphics. Its really hard to explain all the things that are terrible about this game. Bottom line is if you like flying around shooting repetitive targets, puzzling nme formations that would never work on a battle field, and never being able to takeoff or land this game is for you. For ppl who want true simulation pass on this game as it is like every other terrible jet game you have ever bought for PS1 and PS2 and all the other consoles. Trust me, this game is just there for the company to make a quick buck of Clancys name!

Do NOT listen to DaveMiami. First there aren't unlimited missiles, and if you don't want a lot of missiles, which I don't see why you wouldn't, then play on elite difficulty. The gameplay is very realistic you CAN see the planes even if you aren't at close range. The story mode is very fun and keeps you interested, cool ranking system. The only problem is that the multiplayer versus has only one mode which is team deathmatch, I guess you can't do to much else since it is a aerial combat game. Overall a very good game.

Pretty good PS3 game. The plot is interesting and the graphics are incredible. Flying over Chicago and shooting down fighter planes was fun for me since I live in the city.
The multiplayer is ok, nothing too great about it. There are obvious flaws with playing it you will soon see when playing against other teams.
I love games like this and this one did not let me down. The only gripe I have is there is a flying mode referred to as Altimeter off you find 1/4 through the game. It supposedly helps you in dogfights with other planes but it's just plain obnoxious. I won't go into detail about it but the game is enjoyable with never using it.

Try the demo with an HD large screen, go through the tutorial and you'll be sold; you have a captain/wingman (sort of) providing voice prompts as you learn to control the plane, evade missiles and enemy fighters via maneuvers and flares, engage the enemy and take him down as well as attack tanks on the ground hiding among buildings, et al. Fly low and hear the concussion your jet engines make on the water's surface, fly between high-rise buildings. View your plane from another pilot's perspective if you choose.
You can do all this and more; this is just the demo....

Being an avid gamer of mostly FPS's and sports games, i'm always up for some good old fashioned dog-fighting. While there isnt a whole lot of that to start (havent tried multiplayer yet) the game itself is a lot of fun. The GF has taken control of the game from me cause it intrigued her so hence this little review. It does take a little getting used to flying and getting the "yawing" right but once you are used to that then the game should be a blast. The story seems decent to start so nothing to complain about there. Like someone stated in a previous review, there are not unlimited missiles. I just seems that way on the "normal" difficulty. Great game, especially if you are a fan of the genre, go out and pick it up. Ive seen in it priced cheaper in new adds at other locations but i may see if BB will do a price match/adjustment.

To clarify, its a 1 person game up to 16 online, so its not have your friends over kind of game. You unlock new content (more planes & weapon packages via levels). It uses the trophy system & you are able to track the progress of your achievements within the game.
The planes do jitter a little bit, but only if your really snobby do you notice this. There is a little bit of downloadable content, but you will find yourself doing online play after you beat the story mode.
There are 3 different levels of difficulty, but you won't find yourself beating your head on the wall. There are checkpoints throughout the missions so if you die, not everything is lost.
