I really like this external drive!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really a great little hard drive. Easy to install and understand how it works. It comes with some extra files and stuff that I don't know how to use or what they're for but it doesn't seem to be a problem overall. Small enough to carry anywhere!

Great Price! So Far So Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought thus during a sale at an excellent price for 1TB of USB 3.0 storage in a slim form factor. The device performs well despite negative reviews found on Amazon and Toshiba's website. I've had it for about 1 month and it hasn't died. It stays plugged in to my desktop and always powers on and shows up in my drive list in the file explorer. Transfer speeds were more than adequate with the included USB 3.0 cable. It draws power from the cable which is a huge plus. My much larger 2TB backup drive needed a bulky AC adapter. So long power cable hassle! Can I vouch for long-term? No. But it appears to be solid. Drive does include 143MB of pre-installed software, driver files, and PDF manuals. Total available space shows as 931GB. Long story short, 4 stars for the past incident-free 4 weeks of ownership.

Great little external hard drive!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought two of these little 1TB drives over two years ago, and have used them hard. One we use for movies when we go camping, and the other is used for backing up our photos when we travel. They are compact, lightweight and fast (for a mechanical hard drive). We have never had a problem with either of them. Note, we did recently buy a new Samsung 500GB external SSD drive as a second backup for our photos, and it is so much smaller, lighter and light-years faster, but it was also about four times as much! So for cheap, reliable external storage, I would still recommend these Toshiba drives.

Great product for the value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use portable HDs quite often, for backups or to store different type of digital archives ... 1TB+ capacity had become bulky and not very "portable". This is the second compact HD I bought. The first I had with these interface fails to connect very often ... this has been very reliable, I haven't had the opportunity to test the anti-shock sensor ... but it was one of the features that made it attractive. For 1TB the prince was unbeatable. I have not installed Pogoplug PC software, that is supposed to provide remote (Cloud) access to data. I haven't tested its Mac compatibilty (my others compact HDs are) it is advertised as compatible with both OS(s)

Great hard drive Poor software.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great hard drive, but the back-up software included with it is poor. I backed up my computer when i got this and 4 weeks later my computer crashed causing me to eventually have to re-install the operating system. Sadly i lost almost half of it when i tried to re-install it. I have since gotten better software and i use this hard-drive for backing up my TV. It's quiet and fast thru the usb 3 connection. I'd probably buy it again but ONLY for a storage use. At 49 bucks it was a good deal. Easy setup up and running in less than 3 mnutes

Easy Peasy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never used an external hard drive and I needed a hard drive that would let me take files, pictures, and music from my OLD PC to my new MAC. I was worried about any extra steps or compatibility issues. This was so EASY! I didn't have to configure anything and it was FAST. I did a lot if research and the price was phenomenal! Especially considering it has more storage than I will ever need. I hope it last for years to come.

Q: QuestionCannot drag files into HD and Time Machine wants to erase diskJust plugged in Canvio to my iMac; opened ext. HD icon; but I cannot drag files into it and when I open Time Machine it wants to erase the Toshiba HD. Something isn't right. What have I not done? It's evidently not as simple as plug in and start using.
Asked by Bob.
- A:Answer Bob, The drive is not formatted out of the box to work natively with a Mac so it has to format it format first. Once you do that, then Time Machine will be able to use the drive AND you will be able to drag-n-drop files to it. I just did this process today. Before the reformat, Mac can read/write to it just because of the driver (software) the Mac is using. If you already have files on the drive though, be sure to copy them some place because formatting the drive so Time Machine can work will erase the contents on the drive first. After the format has completed, you can move the data back (just stay out of the folder time machine created).
