Took a chance--bad result

Dubbed about 40 minutes of VHS to DVD before the VHS player malfunctioned: Audio continued streaming, picture was completely garbled. Tried several other tapes, including one commercially recorded, with same result. Would have been great, as was simple to use and liked the on-line buying experience.
Will say, however, that Best Buy COMPLETELY resolved to my satisfaction. They took the item back at the store and credited my PayPal account, for which I received a confirming e-mail from PayPal upon arriving home (a trip of only about 20 minutes). So thank you is in order for standing behind the product!
Based on my experience, I would certainly avoid this particular product

Great to Convert old vcr tapes & camcorder tapes

I received this as a present for Christmas. The first one I received came quickly, but would not work. Taking it back to Best Buy was a snap, and it took all of 30 seconds for them to take it back. The next one came quickly and it works great! It took a little work to figure out how to set it up from the extensive downloaded manual, but once I figured it out, it worked perfectly to convert videos to DVD but even better to convert all my high 8 camcorder tapes to DVD using my camcorder easily connected to the front of the DVD player. I am so glad that I now can convert this precious footage without paying massive amounts to have it converted!!

Decent player; not exactly 'refurbished'

I already had one Toshiba DVD player and wanted a 2nd one for another room. I went with the 'refurbished' model for the price. It works fine, no concerns there, but I wouldn't call it 'refurbished'. There was a home-burned DVD in the drawer when I received it, and no user manual. Batteries in the remote were Duracell or some such, not the usual cheap 'factory' cells. Fortunately it is similar to my other model so I have been able to use it with no problems. This was more like an open-box return that was resold without much inspection. Buyer beware.

I found it very simple to hook up my self, the instructions were very simple. I like transfering home video to DVD for a more permenant storage and use. The manual made it very easy to learn how to use this machine.

Does everything it says it does.
Takes some time to setup since manual not user friendly.
Disapointed you can not copy a vcr tape to a dvd
Unable to record on Componet or HDMI. However,
or regular setup it plays and tapes in wide screen

I bought this unit mostly to record DVDs but my second reason was for the VHS player. There are a considerable number of tapes here and this one unit makes the setup neater. One player recorder sitting on the self instead of two or more and the extra clutter of wiring.

When I first set this up, the VCR did not work properly, then the DVD tray stopped working. I returned it under warranty, and this replacement model seems fine so far.

Had it for about a week. Loved it, untill I went to dub VHS to DVD and the DVD Tray refused to open. Took it to my local location, they looked it over and made a full return.. I'll be looking for another model to replace it with.
