Q: QuestionIs it SMR?(5 answers)
A: AnswerNo, it is Conventional Magnetic Recording. See this snipit from WD. Here’s a breakdown of our products for NAS use-cases: • Our current device-managed shingled magnetic recording (DMSMR) (2TB, 3TB, 4TB, and 6TB) WD Red series will be the choice for the majority of NAS owners whose demands are lighter SOHO workloads. • WD Red Plus is the new name for conventional magnetic recording (CMR)-based NAS drives in the WD Red family, including all capacities from 1TB to 14TB. These will be the choice for those whose applications require more write-intensive SMB workloads such as ZFS. WD Red Plus in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB and 6TB capacities will be available soon. • Our WD Red Pro (CMR 2TB to 18TB) series for the highest-intensity usage remains the same.Answered by Lanshark
- A: AnswerIt's a 5400 RPM drive. My use of a NAS is primarily archival, so I'm more interested in reliability rather than speed.

wd red 4tb
i have thousands of photo and many GB of files ,, that i need lots of space ,, so this fits in my dell 8940 slot as a just perfect just fit .. however, i am always wary of using very large disks to store TB of files and lose if it breaks ,, 4TB is just about the max size i will use .. so far with 1.5TB moved on it and working for the last 2 weeks .plus bought this on BB sale. and then got a lower price next day when it went on sale again with BB price match .. for a great deal from BestBuy

Western Digital... ALWAYS!
You see this? You want this. You know why? It's a Western Digital, start there. It's a Red Plus = Fast, reliable, NAS. It's the right price. AND It's the actual best model offered... It's the WD40EFPX model, meaning... - It's a CMR drive (not the cheaper, less reliable and slower SMR drive). - It has a 256mb buffer (not 128mb) - It's a PLUS series... Faster than Red, slower than Pro, still super fast for an HDD. - It's built to last... for servers, RAID and home use. Oh, and it's almost the same price as a Blue (entry level). Bottom line, for backup and daily access... GET THIS!!!
