    Wes Craven's New Nightmare
Veteran horror director Wes Craven was responsible for the hit 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, which introduced the character of Freddy Krueger. After Craven sold the rights to his character, Krueger became filmdom's top grossing monster, with five sequels by 1991. In this post-modernist horror film, Craven plays himself, a filmmaker working on a script for a movie that seems to be spinning out of control. Also playing himself, as well as playing his customary character Krueger, is Robert Englund. The original teenage hero of the first Nightmare film, Heather Langenkamp, also plays herself. She is still haunted by Freddy dreams, but Craven convinces her to make another Krueger film to exorcise her demons. Unfortunately, her son Dylan (Miko Hughes) is being taken over by Freddy himself, who materializes and kills Dylan's beloved nanny, Julie (Tracy Middendorf). Dylan, possessed by the evil spirit, escapes from the hospital and tries to cross a freeway with his mother in pursuit. Craven finds that his character has literally become a creation out of his control. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

      One of the Best Nightmares

Who ever wrote the synopsis on the main page of this movie is almost completely wrong. Wes Craven did co-write the original treatment for "Dream Warriors", which is regarded by many fans of the series as one of the best of the sequels. Also, the review has spoilers all in it. But nonetheless, "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" is a great entry in the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. Boldly original, and ahead of its time... this one takes place in "reality" with the stars and makers of the series being haunted by Freddy himself. It successfully pushes Freddy back into the shadows, and while after the hijinks of the sequels makes it impossible to make him scary again, Craven does a fine effort of at least making him a serious threat again. A lot of parallels are drawn between this one and the original, and the presence of original stars Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon make it feel like old homecoming week. While its tone and seriousness may disappoint fans of the sequels, this one was clearly made with fans of the original in mind -- a more mature horror film for those who grew up with the original. The DVD package itself is disappointing, but most of the extra features for this movie are on the eighth disc of the mega boxset that came out in 1999. All thats left is a pretty good director's commentary and trailer. Overall, this is a fine movie, and one of the best "Nightmares" to be had.

      Freddy is back

The only problem with the movie is that it's taking Freddy from the movies and putting him in reality. Like he's was a real life child murder come to real life. That's was the only problem. When Wes craven was in the movie he was writing a new script for a new Freddy movie. Heather who was in the original film is the main character who was the star of this new movie. Beacuse Wes has been having bad dreams about Freddy. That's why he's writing a new movie.Maybe if we pray very hard he will make a new Freddy movie. But all-in-all it's a pretty good movie not like the first but give it a rental or watch it on t.v.

      Wes Craven's New Nightmare

This is a great follow up to the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Not only does Mr Craven return to the series, playing himself, but he rescusitates two main characters from the original film, played by the original actors, Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund, also playing themselves. And Freddy's back in all his red, green, and dark terror. This film is a must for any true Nightmare fan as it pulls the story together with the actors, and also pulls the story into the future at the same time.
