Whirlpool 1.1 Cu. Ft. Low Profile Over-the-Range Microwave Hood Combination
I had been using a very basic countertop microwave, and I wanted something better. I also wanted to free up counter space. This (and a lesser one with fewer features) is the only over the range microwave that’s compact enough to avoid interfering with the view of the stove top. Yet it’s tall enough inside that virtually anything I could ever want to put in it will fit just fine. It also has a really powerful ventilation fan—so powerful that I rarely use more than the lowest speed to ventilate through my roof. It was relatively easy to install, although the installation instructions could use some work.
Once I got used to setting it and then closing the door, I have found all of its features to be easy to use. Its lights are adequate to light the stove top on the higher setting; on the lower setting , they are adequate as a night light. My only complaint is that the electronic signal for the end of cooking or timing isn’t very loud. It is adjustable, and I have it turned up all the way, but it’s barely audible from anywhere other than in the kitchen. But otherwise, it’s a truly excellent appliance. I am very happy with it. I chose white to complement the “old farmhouse” appearance of my kitchen. I like that its appearance is very clean and uncluttered with visible controls.

This is perfect for those that have a range hood, but would rather have an over the range microwave. The cabinet above my range was 18” tall which did not allow for an OTR microwave because the bottom would be too close to the cooktop. This OTR microwave was perfect because it’s only 10-1/4” tall. So after the install, I have 19-1/8” to the bottom of the microwave which is plenty of space. The install was easy. The mounting bracket also doubles as a template for the holes that need to be drilled into the cabinet. This is much easier and faster than trying to deal with paper templates that come with other OTR microwaves. The hardest part was adding an outlet for the microwave to plug into.....and that’s not really hard at all! The microwave is very quiet, but yet powerful. The 3 speed fan is also quiet and powerful. There is also an LED light that shines on the cooktop. This microwave is sleek in design, but very roomy on the inside. I can put a 6” tall bowl in it with no trouble. It has a feature that lets one turn off the turntable that will let one put a 13x9 dish in it with ease. I can not speak for it’s longevity as I have only had it for a few days. I am very happy I made this purchase.
Out of the 4 matching black stainless Whirlpool kitchen appliances I purchased, this is my favorite of all! Low profile/sleek to fit in my small kitchen/cabinet space. It has freed up counter space in my small kitchen,( Hated giving up my Kenmore but, It was big) It also acts as my new hood with 2 brightness setting for the light & multiple fan speeds. It has gentle chimes & visual reminders “Welcome” & “Enjoy” when an item is finished. Multiple presets. It has modernized my kitchen!
I got to take advantage of President Day sales. Wanted this microwave for quite awhile. Love the black stainless color. The microwave arrived on time and the 2 delivery guy were great! They took it out of the box so I could ensure it was unblemished. My only criticism is that the directions left much to be desired, but I persevered.
This unit looks great above my Sammy slide-in range. Let me tell you - for a smaller microwave - it is a bit heavier than the old Samsung uwave. You will need help supporting it while the bolts are screwed in from above. Thanks neighbor! Equal wattage as before but maybe not 1000w as before. Needs a little more time to cook some items. Love the 30sec basic time when Start is pushed, for rolls and cups of coffee etc.
I've been waiting for this low profile Over the range microwave for a few years already. They used to make these more often but then every company went the bigger is better way and I was stock with an Whirlpool unit that hung only 15 inches above the stove. Not a good thing if you wanna keep your microwave free from grease and have proper venting while cooking. This 7011 unit is great, low profile that now sits whole 20 inches above the stove. Planty room to pull in the cooking steams and remain clean from oil and grease. The install was a little tricky for me as the cabinet mounting holes required a minimum 12 inches distance away from the back wall but my old cabinets are only 12 inches away so the drilled holes ended up being right next to the end rim of the cabinet and prevented me from easily using the provided washers. I ended up cutting into the cabinet rim to be able to slide the washer into it and aligning the whole with the mounting bolt. In the end its a very strong hold. Another problem with the install was that the none of the wall mounting holes aligned with the studs in the wall and I didnt wanna use the ankers if I didn't have to so I decided not to use any of the pre-drilled mounting holes and drilled 4 holes through the metal mounting bracket directly into the studs, two at the top of the bracket and two at the bottom. In the end much stronger install then using the wall ankers in my opinion. I love this microwave. It looks great giving an updated look to an outdated kitchen, lol, and prevented me from cutting down the cabinets to be able to fit regular size microwave. p.s. Just be ready to do something with the extra space on the back wall that is left under the microwave . Mine left a bare wall so before installing the new unit I had to place some stone tiles where the regular tiles were missing, just an extra time spent but make sure to plan for that when replacing a larger unit with this one. Good luck
We wanted to get the microwave off the counter but because of a pot filler faucet mounted on the wall behind the cook top we would have had to either move the plumbing or raise the upper cabinet. Both would require a significant amount of work and cost. This product was not only an option, it was a GREAT option. Turns out to be just what we wanted without the pain of demolition. Glad we found it when we did.
A:AnswerI just spoke to a tech about the strong air blowing out the front left vent above the door. He said the fan has to be reversed to vent into the ceiling vent. It comes from the factory with recirculation back into the kitchen. They are coming next week. I will update.
The unit does stick out further than my cabinets as well. Initially I thought it looked a bit odd until everything else was in place. Now, all I get are rave reviews of its appearance in my small compact kitchen. Instead of being an eyesore or looking like the odd man out as far as built-ins and countertop pieces go, it distinguishes itself with a sleek profile a beautiful display and soft lighting. The automatic door open feature with one simple touch, is wonderful. You will not regret this purchase, it’s just different than what we are accustomed to.
A:AnswerUpper vent is roof rent.
Make sure the microwave flap/damper opens up when fan is running. And, if you have a vent system that goes outside, either up or up and then sideways, that the microwave discharges into the
base of the vent. I had to move mine about two invhes toward the front of my cabinet.
A:AnswerYes, the Microwave does have the option to vent outside, or indoors, if you choose. I did find that the exhaust fan is so powerful, it still produces some airflow to the inside, even though it blasts air to the exhaust pipe.
