Bought this on offer to replace a fifteen year old GE dishwasher, and this Whirlpool model exceeded our expectations. It is energy efficient, so it uses less water (longer wash times) and less heat (leave closed for longer to dry completely), but its silent, it cleans everything off, and it has plenty of space for a family of four, including one small one.

We purchased this dishwasher to replace an older dishwasher in our Florida home. This one has the stainless interior which we like very much. It has ample space for many dishes inside the cabinet. It is very quiet, and the dishes come out clean. We purchased this because of the special offering, and the stainless steel tub.

We have had this dishwasher before, but we didn't have a water softener and our hard water clogged it beyond use. We now have a water softener and upgraded to the stainless steel interior. It is super quiet and there is a ton of practical room design in the interior.
There is only designated room on one side of the machine for wine glasses (I think it was on both sides in our previous model). And the silverware compartment is finicky. If it isn't fully locked and you open the machine while it's operating, the silverware will spill out everywhere. And yes it's an easy thing to do, but my family always forgets.
As for the warranty, we are on our 3rd dishwasher in 5 years. The washer softener issue was our fault, but the other one stopped working 2 months after the factory warranty expired. We think that if you have a lot of use that most dishwashers won't hold up in the long run, so just spend the extra cash to get an extra 18+ months out of it.

Looks good and very quiet. Cleans well, but the utensil holder slots are too narrow not allowing for the majority of our silverware to fit in it so they go in all at once and don't clean as well as they would if they were separated.

This dishwasher has brought the sparkle back to our dishes that we thought were a lost cause! After years with a mediocre dishwasher we finally decided to purchase a new one around Christmas time to get a deal, but my husband came upon this one as a last years floor model and we just couldn't resist.
We echo the complaint about the silverware holder. It separates the silverware nicely, but it hard to load if on the door and you cannot use the side by the soap compartment much because it conflicts with the space.
We took the advice to use the cascade platinum pods and rinse aid and that combination with the new washer has really made a difference! We no longer have foggy glasses and stains.

I love so many things about this dishwasher. I have nothing negative to say about the silverware basket. I LOVE that it is against the door and doesn't take up space in the lower rack. My basket isn't flimsy at all, holds the perfect amount of utensils, and easily slides into place. The machine is quiet and gets dishes clean. This is my favorite dishwasher thus far. The dishwasher looks great & cleans great since I retrofitted my silverware baskets from my old machine. I love the clean lines of my new machine. I also really like the sensor wash option. My dishes come out squeaky clean.

This is a nice washer quite easy instal. The handle is a little cheap and the door panel that it attaches to is weak it buckles when you pull it to open it. That is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars however I have only owned it for 3 weeks so time will tell. The dishes come out clean not the driest but I have never seen one dry them totally. I would buy this again. I would get the 5 year geek squad with the buy it's worth it for any product

A:AnswerDear Valued Customer:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding Whirlpool dishwasher model WDT790SAYM.
This model will use much less water than any previous dishwasher you may have had. There is unfortunately not a set amount as the unit fills with sensors that detect soil level, detergent use, and water temperature. This can make the water usage vary per normal cycle. Average would be approximately 4-6 gallons.
Thank you again for your inquiry. We appreciate and value your business!
A:AnswerWe cannot access the controls when ours is closed, but it allows you to set the controls and start the machine while it's open. It won't begin the cycle until the door is closed though.
A:AnswerOn the top left hand side of the door. if installed correctly the entire door should sit out from the cabinet. the countertop should still overhang a little over the control buttons on the top of the door which is fine. it doesn't get in the way of operating the unit.
