I am a professional musician, so I am no stranger to good sound quality, and I am a huge snob when it comes to sound. Yamaha makes great stuff! I own several surround sounds (one in each room of my house, about 7 total). This one is by far the best all around. The good: - crystal clear sound (as long as you have good speakers). - A breeze to set up. - Loud (in a really good way!). - your volume displays on the TV so no guessing what volume you are at. - memory guard - line out for the sub - ypao microphone for setup. Makes it super easy to set up your speakers. And extremely accurate! - lots of custom settings (if needed). - 4k compatible - will shut off signal if you have a short, keeping you from blowing anything. - smart enough to know what I plugged in and name it for me (i.e. Roku, Chromecast, Xbox, etc.). - I could go on and on The bad: I personally don't like this remote compared to the last few models of this amp/receiver. I much prefer having the 1-4 HDMI selectors at the top of the old remote. - slow at loading when changing from one input to another. - the manual comes on a CD ROM. Bottom line, if you want top-notch cinema sound you will not be disappointed with this amp. I've heard all the nonsense about some more expensive receivers, but I'm telling you this amp is the best (in sound quality for home use). Obviously not powerful enough for a stadium or really large room (200 plus seater). I would and have recommended this product to friends. And just FYI, several of my friends and family have tried to get another brand to try and out do me (like a competition) and every one of them have told me how disappointed they are for not going with the Yamaha. Remember, Yamaha pioneered home receivers.

I Picked this up last night at the Honolulu branch off Alakawa St. This unit was intended to replace an older Onkyo receiver that died just a few days ago. I hooked this up to 4 Bose in ceiling speakers in my retail store...All I can say, is WOW. What a great bang for buck! After using it all afternoon, the Bluetooth hasn't dropped once, and the setup was an absolute breeze. In pure direct mode, with 5 channel stereo activated, the results are clear and crisp. I love how natural the sound is. Use good speaker wire, and buy quality speakers because this thing puts out a waaaaaaaaaay nicer sound than my last entry-level Onkyo unit, and you'll hear the difference. The construction quality is superb, and you can't get a better deal elsewhere. I got this puppy on sale for $249... The in store price is $30 cheaper than what's listed online. So gents, you might want to get in the car, and buy this one in person. Also, just download the owner's manual from Yamaha's website as soon as you get this thing out of the box. They don't ship these with a hard copy of the owner's manual, and in 2017, I can't blame them. Great receiver, just BUY IT !!

This is my first reciver and I love it. First of I have a samsung 4k tv (ku6300) and has only 1 hdmi to have hdr signal, with this reciver I can connect my uhd bluray player and my ps4 pro and get that hdr signal without changing the cable on the back of the tv. Second, for my first time using a reciver was very easy to use. I have it with polk t serie speakers and the sound is very clear and just amazing. Great at all in movies, games and music. It has a a lot of settings for preference, it has a ypao that makes callibration easy. The only thing for me that does not like is banana plugs only for left and right front channel only, I would like to have it on all channels. I love this reciver

I have used Yamaha products for several years. They are the perfect fit for a basic home studio that meets all of my simple needs. The cost is accessible, and the intuitive set up is simple . I recently purchased a 4K television, and I wanted to upgrade the capacity of running pure 4K through the receiver to maximize the capacity of the television. I’ve had no problems in the first few months of the product, however, I did purchase the four year warranty just in case. In any event , I’m very happy with the product, and I will continue to endorse Yamaha because if it’s affordability, and performance.

    For $300?

I have simple needs: I have a blu ray, cable and a TV. And I also have very nice speakers, and the clarity of a $300 amp like this is almost beyond belief. I have always had good stereos but when my last one quit I decided to downgrade as I don't listen to much music any more. The thing is I didn't downgrade because this is so clear and gives me way more than enough volume with 5 speakers, including center, in my small living room. My 42 y/o B&O front speakers are still awesome (the pair cost $500 back then) and provide the bass response I need when using enhanced bass from the amp. I highly recommend this amp for anyone with simple needs.

    TV Sound/Picture Sync Problem

TV Sound/Picture Sync Problem Up front: I was not connecting as recommended with the pass-through video. I have too many old components for that. I just wanted to connect it to my TV audio output to get nice sound through my speakers. Still, that does not explain why the sound was lagging the picture on the screen. It looked like a badly dubbed movie. People were speaking and the sound was delayed. I know it was the receiver, because my old receiver did not have this problem. Also, I could simultaneously listen through headphones fed by the TV audio signal. The speakers sounded like an echo following behind the headphones. I was using the TV optical output to make the connection. There are no other adjustments or connections possible. Best Buy offered no help except to tell me I should use a sound bar instead of a receiver! At least they were nice about refunding my money.

My family room and adjacent kitchen are approx 40X 30ft and have vaulted ceiling so I was unsure if this unit was going to be enough for us. I would give it 5 stars for Value and for aren't "sound geeks" I think it great. Plenty of volume and clarity with some nice functionally that isn't too complicated. I connect it to a monoprice 100 w speaker set and had to manually dial down the base (which I considered a good thing). Additionally, I connected to my in-ceiling speaker and the surround sound was so good it would freak the dog out.

This purchase of the Yamaha Basic receiver was a no-brainer, as I had purchased a similar NON-4K receiver (probably...) 7 years ago, & now, being time for an upgrade for my brother, it all made sense! Yamaha sells nothing BUT class products, & being the owner of their RX-A 2070 receiver, I had no doubt their entry level receivers were as wonderfully crafted as their top-tier A/V gonzo-receivers!!! Sounds are excellent...hookup with HDMI configuration along with an entry level BlueRay player was SO SIMPLE!!! My brother is smiling even more than before!!!HA!
