Awesome Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this after my Pioneer died and after i bought a denon 1400H and returned it. Pioneers are out of my recommendation at all. Denon was great too but not as powerful and clear/warm as this receiver. Pros: 1. Very good quality, build and response time to changes in modes, commands when you use the remote/phone app. 2. Very good sound quality and great to watch movies. I tested Captain America over netflix at maximum decibels it could go to and it shook the house when an explosion happened. 3. Music cast app is far superior than any other apps for other receivers. For over enthusiastic movie/music lovers, they will love all the features of the app and how you can fine-tune each speaker to get 'what you want'. I don't like limitations/presets to the equalizer when you are buying an elite receiver like this. This receiver gives you a lot of flexibilty to change sound quality. 4. All features you can dream of. Cons: 1. App or remote can look too complicated for very simple users. 2. Heavy . (I don't mind that) 3. Some music modes are weird. 4. Denon in-command receivers are a good competitor but for watching movies, this wins hands-on. 5. Initial Setup and configuration takes some time.

Great for my Dolby Atmos setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup in my game room with the atmos speakers in ceiling. This amp runs my setup perfectly. I have all definitive technology ProMonitor/Center 1000s with Sonance in ceiling speakers and a Def Tech supercube 2000 subwoofer. It sounds pretty amazing. I did try to hook up two subwoofers to the amp but from what i can tell you cant reverse the phase of the subwoofers from the amp itself. The amp treats both as one so both hit at the same time. I may need to do more research to see if its possible to do it. My supercube 2000 doesnt have a reverse phase switch in the back so i cant reverse it from the sub itself. I want to run 2 subs but i would like to have one regular and one phase reversed so until i can figure that out, im stuck with one sub. But the amp itself is great. I did have to cut out the back of my console table to be able to fit the amp/wires and close the front doors of the console. I would measure the depth of whatever you are going to put the amp in, add an inch or 2 to the depth of the amp for the wires especially if your going to use banana plugs on your wires and see if it will fit in your console.

Great receiver for the price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my 6 y/o Sony receiver with this one and after only 2 days the power supply blew out. Took it back and actually got an open box for just over $500 and it has been working great for a couple months now. I love the on screen menu, it is full of features and easy to use. I really like the equalizer. At first I wasn’t impressed with the sound but after tweaking the eq settings it sounds awesome on my Klipsch speakers. The receiver recognized all devices hooked up to it and changes audio/video setting automatically when you turn on a component. My only complaint is when listening to music on 2 ch stereo mode I cannot figure out how to get the sub to play also. I have reverted to using 7 ch mode, adjusting the rear speaker volume all the way down and then unplugging the center channel speaker. Anyone know how to get the sub to play in 2 ch music mode? Overall a great receiver, even improved the picture quality of the tv!

Great But Can Be Tricky to Setup Sub
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Could not get sub to work in the beginnning. I wanted to write this review to help others out. When I initially connected just my speakers to this receiver and did the YPAO setup my subwoofer would not work. I later found out you absolutely must use a tv or proejector to do the on-screen YPAO setup for multiple reasons. 1. Yamaha YPAO is awful for bass management. I have an SVS PB-12Plus and my YPAO setup would fail because the bass was too loud. (YPAO W3 Level Error) 2. Do the YPAO setup WITHOUT your sub connected initially. 3. Once your speakers are configured for the room, If you have 6 ohm speakers you’ll want to then change them to “small speakers” in the setup menu. 4. Go back into the speaker settings and literally “turn the subwoofer on” 5. Once the sub is on make sure to adjust the decibel setting to anything above zero. The scale is from -10dB to +10dB. If your YPAO did happen to work it may have thrown your sub to -10dB and you can barely hear it (this is what YPAO is supposed to do, but will fail if you have a big sub). 6. Finally, if you have a projector or TV with speakers, make sure your sound (on the projector or TV) says A/V system and not TV or projector! After configuring my speakers sound would occasionally play out my project, not through my receiver and this was a simple fix in the projector menu. Hope this helps someone! Overall great receiver once it’s setup.

Great sound and lots of configuration options
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this now for around a month. It was super easy to set up, but I still feel like I can get more out of it. The configuration options for speakers and sound fields are almost unlimited. It is a little complex, but that is what I wanted. If you are looking for a plug and go setup get a sound bar. I wanted a lot of customization options and this really delivered. It has the option to do regular dolby 7.2 or Atmos. Both are great. I paired this unit with my older Klipsch speakers and the sound quality is the best I have ever had. The on-screen menus and remote are easy to understand with great graphics. The iphone app is AWESOME. I don't even touch the remote since downloading it.

Moving toward Atmos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Yamaha receiver and I love it. My previous Yamaha receiver still works great but is outdated as it was pre HDMI and of course doesn't support Atmos. This receiver has plenty of HDMI inputs and of course supports Atmos which is my next upgrade. I recently purchased a 4K/HDR TV and, of course, this receiver supports that technology as well. With Yamaha's MusicCast, Bluetooth, AirPlay and several internet radio applications this is a very versatile AV receiver. Set up was a snap with Yamaha's YPAO. That's a lot of good stuff in a receiver that only cost $649. I love this receiver

Excellent Sound and Features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were really torn on what A/V unit to purchase for our new in-house audio video solution. Our last unit, a Denon, performed well for almost 20 years giving us great sound and a somewhat easy solution to indoor and outdoor sound. After a "blind" sound test with four different brands and the speakers we had selected, we picked the Yamaha for what our ears told us had the brightest treble and deepest bass and solid midrange coverage. The unit comes with build in wi-fi and bluetooth for easy connection to your in-home router/modem solution and smartphone music.

Amazing receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first receiver, but I did a ton of research and spoke with the guys in Magnolia Design at length. I mostly wanted the receiver to listen to music, but decided to go ahead and get one with more than 2 channels in case I got surround sound one day. Now I listen to tv and watch movies with it bc it sounds so good with my DefTech floor speakers! The sound stage is amazing; I'm hearing things in my music I haven't before and when watching a movie/tv it's great with only the two speakers. Highly recommended.

Q: QuestionMy multi-zone Harman Kardon currently supports my 5.1 as my main home theatre, and a pair of speakers hardwired on my deck as zone 2. One of the zone 2 channels has gone out and I want to know if this Yamaha will support this set up?
Asked by ddanielcigars.
- A:Answer Yes, you can do zone 2 configuration with the 5.1, I have mine set that way. Also with the MusicCast, or control app, you can control the volume, etc from your phone for both channels and up to 9 additional channels using remote MusicCast speakers or amps.

Q: QuestionI have a Sony receiver currently and have extremely hard time understanding the dialogues in movies. I have fine tuned everything but nothing has helped. How is this receiver for watching movies especially understanding the dialogues?
Asked by Vivs.
- A:Answer Answering my own question after finally purchasing the receiver. It DID fix the dialogues issue and now all the movies sound crystal clear. Totally recommend this receiver to anyone struggling to hear the movies properly.

Q: QuestionI guess my question is more general, because the last answer was not helpful at all. Can a Receiver with "minimum impedance at 8 Ohms" safely use 6 Ohm speakers? Or, must all speakers used on a "minimum 8 Ohm impedance" be 8 Ohm rated speakers?
Asked by Jack.
- A:Answer Think of ohms as resistance; higher the number the more resistance, so the answer is you can use the amp but be careful because the lower the ohms the more power the speaker will receive therefore with that being said it would be easy to cook your speakers. if you disconnect your 8 ohm speakers from your amplifier and connect 4 ohm speakers, then the resistance goes down. Less resistance lets more current flow and so the amplifier will have deliver more power to the speakers

Q: QuestionDoes this unit have a WiFi adapter for connecting wireless to my home network?
Asked by lookintoupgrade.
- A:Answer Yes it does!

Q: QuestionCan I listen to two different inputs in separate zones?
Asked by Bob.
- A:Answer Yes you can but limited to a set number. I would download the manual that shows which ones for Zone 2 to double check your application. In general it can't play HDMI unless you match Zone 1. Zone 1 can play anything.

Q: QuestionDoes the HDMI input pass the video & audio signals tough to the HDMI output, even when this receiver is off? So in other words, does it pass through the audio & video signals for the times when you do not want to have the full surround sound system on?
Asked by tommyloan.
- A:Answer Yes it can.
