    Synopsis

    Zodiac
The true story behind the murders that many crime scholars believe to be the most perplexing series of unsolved crimes in modern history comes to the screen in chilling detail as Fight Club and Seven director David Fincher steps behind the camera to tell the mysterious tale of the infamous Zodiac killer. A relentless serial killer is stalking the streets of the San Francisco Bay Area, leaving citizens locked into a constant state of panic, and baffled authorities scrambling for clues. Though the killer sadistically mocks the detectives by leaving a series of perplexing ciphers and menacing letters at the crime scenes, the investigation quickly flatlines when none of the evidence yields any solid leads. As two detectives remain steadfast in their devotion to bringing the elusive killer to justice, they soon find that the madman has control not only over their careers, but their very lives as well. Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Zodiac is a dramatic reinterpretation of the Zodiac serial murders from the late 60's to early 70's. The movie is an engrossing experience and for people who either don't remember or were too young to have been around when the killings took place, is a harsh but realistic take on what happened based off of first hand survivor accounts. The movie mainly follows Jake Gyllenhals character who is a cartoonist for the local paper. His love of puzzles draws him into an almost maniacal obsession with discovering who the Zodiac killer is. If you're a fan of thrillers, drama or David Fincher the director, you;ll want to watch this film. The special features are surprisingly robust by todays standards. There is a full length commentary on the film disc as well as several behind the scenes features on the second that include CG setups, wardrobe interviews and even interviews with survivors and others that were directly impacted by the Zodiac killer. There is roughly over 3 hours of bonus content.

"Zodiac" is a terrific film that's as historically accurate as it is enthralling. Under the able direction of David Fincher ("Se7en", "Fight Club"), the movie clearly portrays the terror, fear, and uncertainty that swept California during the late '60s and '70s as the self-named serial killer known as Zodiac began a killing sweep throughout the state. As members of a number of different police jurisdictions search for clues to the Zodiac killings, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Paul Avery and Cartoonist Robert Graysmith start tracking the killer from a journalistic side of the case. A solid cast adds to the mesmerizing plot. Robert Downey Jr., as always, is quirky and memorable as reporter Paul Avery. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the obsessive and dogged cartoonist Robert Graysmith. Mark Ruffalo plays a scruffy "Inspector Colombo-type" detective who trails the killer and never quite seems to catch up to him. Highly recommended.

Zodiac got unfairly treated by an audience that expected Se7en Part 2. Indeed, I expected something more akin to that film, and was initially disappointed by it. As time went on though, my mind wouldn't let me forget the film, and when the Director's Cut was announced, I gave it another shot to see if I was really missing something. After seeing the Director's Cut, I did a complete 180 on the film. I finally got what the film was trying to do, and I now consider it one of Fincher's best films (if not THE best). The Blu-ray had been out of print for way too long, so I was glad to see it brought back, and at a reasonable price too. Highly recommended.

I'm a huge fan of David Fincher's oeuvre. This man is responsible for some of my favorite films of the last two decades: Gone Girl, The Social Network, Se7en, Fight Club, and my personal favorite, Zodiac. Zodiac features an all-star cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, an engaging story and script based on the true story of the infamous Zodiac killer, and beautiful cinematography by the late and great Harris Savides. With a run-time of over 2 and half hours, this may seem intimidating to some viewers, but I promise you will not be disappointed. This is a must-own film in my collection, and in everyone's collection.

Wow! This is a great movie. Even though everyone knows that the zodiac killer is never found, you still get this uneasy and chilling feeling as the movie progresses. The obsession of Graysmith (Jake G.) grows and is unstoppable. The movie leaves you wanting more (even at 2.5 hours). Great job reinventing 1970's San Fran. Fincher and cast have done a great job here and it is a shame it didn't get the success it deserved. The extras are very informative in terms of more details regarding the case.

Saw this film initially when it first was released. Something was missing then. Perhaps it was to expansive. Perhaps it just tries to hard. I saw the blu ray on sale ao I decided to watch it again. Time changes a person's opinion. My feelings from the first viewing are pretty much the same. It is a well made movie. Good acting but it just doesn't work.

Firstly I must say that this movie is not like as I expected. I was expecting a movie that contains more action and horror scenes but this one was like a documentary. The movie is so long, I think this is unnecessary.Mysterious suspense movies that kept you thinking and on your toes

The mystery surrounding the identity of the Zodiac killer is one that has grabbed and held on to American attention for years. The acts are displayed in this film by David Fincher, who is a master of suspense and mystery. All around well-acted and extremely well-directed film. 4.5/5
