Q: Height and depth of top compartment
A: Height is about 5 7/8 inches. Depth is 21 inches, but be careful. There are two recessed dividers in the top compartment which are not removable. These divide that compartment into three compartments which are 21 inches wide each.
A: Ventilation is very good. Each shelf has slots cut out for ventilation. If you are very concerned you can use the top three shelves that are not enclosed in the glass. I have a receiver and cable box in the same enclosure and it's fine.
Q: Will it fit a 42 inch sound bar width wide in the front compartment??
A: Easily! With about 10" to spare on both ends.
Q: Are there center legs for support to prevent bowing over time?
A: There is a center leg in the back of the unit - could not tell you if the front will bow over time
A: We have the largest Sony Sound bar from Best Buy and it fits great. We are considering putting our cable box next to it. Length wise, you have plenty of room. Height and depth wise, it's perfect. Hope this helps.
A: Sorry for late response, I have been out of town. Yes your 18" x 18" receiver should fit without any problems. The depth from back to the hinge is 17.5" but the width is 19.5" so plenty of room for the receiver. The width will allow you to move the receiver to the side opposite the hinge and still have plenty of room. The depth from back to front ignoring the hinge is about 20". These measurements are the same for all three enclosed cabinets. The cabinets have a shelf that can be left in or removed. The shelves have three places they can be installed. Each location is about a inch different from each location. Locations are in the middle of the cabinet and mounted on shelf brackets. Thanks Tom
