A: Cool mode is the air conditioner mode. There is no drain line needed while using the unit in Cool mode. Dry mode is used when using the unit as a dehumidifier. When using Dry mode a discharge hose (a short garden hose) will need to be attached to the "continuous drain outlet" to allow drainage of the moisture the unit is removing from the surrounding air. The hose will need to drain to an area below the "continuous drain outlet" on the unit, whether it is a floor drain or a collection pan that will have to be emptied when full. The unit does not have a pump to move the water to an elevation above the "continuous drain outlet" it is strictly a gravity fed system. You WILL NOT be able to drain out a window unless the window it below the "continuous drain outlet" in the middle of the unit. **The 4-1 Units, which this unit is NOT, include a Heat mode. During Heat mode there is a need to have a drain hose in place to drain out the window.
