A: I work on my computer mostly at night. That is why I purchased this particular computer. When I brought it back to Best Buy, (I must look stupid) the rep told me that the "ON" light lights up as does the "sound mute" button and the "caps lock button", and that is what they mean by, "backlit keyboard". I was told to purchase a clip-on light to use instead. When I mentioned that all, or at least most keyboards have these lights, I just got a shrug from him. ALSO, I have been having trouble with the touchpad. Sometimes when I bring the cursor down the page, everything it touches gets highlighted. This happens out of nowhere. It takes a while before it goes back to not highlighting. The Best Buy rep told me to buy a mouse and use that. I am angry too!!!!!!!
A: This PC is ready to use right out of the box. The Operating System is Windows 11 Home. This is a 64-bit PC. It does not have an Ethernet port for plugging in an Ethernet (used for Internet, home networking, attaching network storage devices, network printers/scanners, etc). But you can get an adapter called a "dongle" that plugs into one of the 3 USB 3.0 ports. Two of the 3 USB 3.0 ports are Type A slots. The 3rd USB 3.0 port uses the newer Type C connector. The Type A slots are larger rectangular shaped connectors. They're usually blue in color, but on this laptop they appear black. The newer Type C has two rounded ends on either side of its rectangular shaped connector. All 3 can transfer data up to 4,800 Mega bits per second (Mbps). That translates to 600 Mega Bytes per second (MBps). It comes with a MicroSoft web browser called Edge. Edge is just a clone of Google's Chrome web browser. For superior performance you can download a free copy of Firefox web browser. For privacy while browsing I suggest using DuckDuckGo as your search engine. If you're uncomfortable doing this on your own call up basic tech support from the manufacturer and they can talk you through it step-by-step. If you have friends or family who can help they can do it easily in a matter of seconds. Your local library probably has free classes on how to use your PC so that you can get the most value out of it. You can also learn more about the use of your Personal Computer (PC) from YouTube videos from Linus Tech Tips. His channel has over a billion views with 15 million subscribers. His reviews are scripted and generally well thought out. He has a back catalog going back a decade all located on YouTube for free access! A terrific value for learning about all manner of computer oriented technologies. Windows, their web browser, Google Chrome all want to keep track of what you do offline when you are not connected to the InterNet and online when you are. You don't have to let them do that. You can use basic tech support from the manufacturer, PC competent family or friends, a Geek Squad employee (for a fee) to have those snoopy practices disabled for you. Ask them to install free software for Firefox called Ad Blocker Plus which will block ALL advertisements online, in YouTube videos. Be mindful that Ad Blocker Plus does default to allowing certain ads to be seen. That makes no sense to me as an ad blocker. But you can easily deselect that option to block everything. I hope that helps, FunFractals (former salesman at Best Buy)
