A: Yes you can. They’re for the weather!
Q: Can I use this bulb to replace the bulb in my front porch which has a recessed can?
A: I got these delivered to my house yesterday. Yes, they fit right into the light shades (cans) perfectly without a problem. Really good lights.
Q: If Hue BR30 fits, will these stick out from the bottom of the cans? Concerned about height not width
A: The overall height of the bulb is 4.92''.
Q: I see nothing that states whether these bulbs are dimmable or non-dimmable...does anybody know?
A: Yes they are dimmable I have two on my front porch and 1 on back works great very bright 0-100% brightness - no color
Q: Is the wall switch always in the On position with this or any other HUE bulb?
A: The lights must have power going to them to be operational. If you want to control them from your phone app, then you would leave the wall switch in the "On" position all the time. However, you can use the wall switch to turn the lights on and off if you like. We do it both ways.
A: They DO NOT need a bridge to work. The bridge more allows you functionality. You'd likely want the bridge if you wanted to add the bulbs to an automation sequence (turn bulbs on when you pull in the driveway, turn on/off at a certain time) or to adjust the brightness. The starter kits are not necessarily cheap, but they do come with a bridge (make sure you buy the Hue Bridge 2.0). I think if you bought the starter kit and installed it, you would not look back.
Q: What size recessed fixtures do these bulbs fit it?
A: These are a PAR-38. The 'PAR' part of the size refers to the size of the bulb; the size of the base (the part that screws into the light socket) is the same as a standard light socket.
Q: Would it be possible to use these to replace recessed lighting indoors?
A: These are outdoor bulbs, but I actually use them indoors in a lamp, since they are brighter than the standard A19 Hue bulbs. The 'PAR' part just refers to the size of the bulb itself. The bulb base (the part that screws into the light socket) is the same as a standard light bulb. Since these bulbs are LED, they do not produce the heat that you find with a regular incandescent bulb, so use in recessed lighting would be absolutely fine.
