A: The drive is formatted as NTFS out of the box, so you can read and write with Windows but only read on a Mac (without special drivers). Maybe that is all you need, but if you need to write to it from a Mac, you will want to get some software for the Mac, or reformat the drive as exFAT. The latter is my preference since it works pretty much everywhere and it take a couple minutes to do. Most all my flash and portable drives are formatted as exFAT for that reason.
Q: Is this external 5TB hard drive an SSD?
A: No, it is not SSD. SSD drives are better but more expensive. I've not had a problem with this or any of my Seagate portable external hard drives, and I carry one with me. Just keep it protected as much as possible.

Bought twice, recommend to friends
I bought the 5000 version twice, first on sale to extend my storage on my PC. I was so happy I wished I had done the 10000/15000 at the time but it works very well for now and likely for the next few years—I have a lot more games and spend a lot less time thinking about what games I want to keep on my PC at the moment vs what games I’d like to have in general. I liked it so much and saw it would be compatible with my PS4 so I bought another one. It’s great for the same reasons, I suggest my friends purchase this if they dont already have an extended hard drive & if they can afford it—but now it’s even more affordable than when I bought it (both times)!

First Impressions
Wow! 5TB is so much space; I’m not sure why I bought two, then I realized they came with a two month trial of adobe Creative Cloud & I was sure I made the right move. One for professional use & one for my passion projects. Sometimes my laptop doesn’t recognize the device right away, but that might be on my laptop. Anyway, good stuff. (Please note I added the label myself.)
