A: I had the dash cam installed today and expirenced extreme glare. Is there a way to limit the glare? The glare was on the dash cam mirror.
A: After speaking with a representative from VanTop, they stated the only difference was the material of the back plate. The H612T has a metal back plate and the HF612L has a plastic back plate. Feel free to chime in if anyone has different information.
A: Yes, you can playback your recorded video on screen. Swiping to the right displays recorded files (both front & rear camera). Double tapping on a file begins on-screen playback. You can also delete files from your mirror. This function is described in the user manual, which you can download from VanTop's web site. A Sandisk Extreme 128gb U3 V30 Class 10 card is sufficient. It writes 4k video at 90mb/s which is more than enough for a dashcam. Read speed is 160mb/s. An Extreme Plus is exactly the same except it can read at 170mbs, so unless you're a professional video editor, the Extreme Plus is not worth the extra cost. If your vehicle is going to be exposed to adverse weather & harsh conditions and you want a more durable SD card, you can always buy a SanDisk High Endurance 128gb card. Those are V30, U3, Class 10, also, but maximum write speed is 40mb/s, & max read speed is 100mb/s. You're trading speed for ultimate reliability. SanDisk claims this card is "..temperature-proof, waterproof, shockproof, and x-ray-proof."
Q: It says built in GPS as GPS map? Or built in GPS tracker
A: There is a GPS tracker built into the mirror that I believe adds GPS coordinates to the metadata in your video files. It also provides a GPS-based speed readout that you can set to display in kilometers or miles. The setup menu also provides you with information about how many satellites the GPS is using, the accuracy of the reading in feet/meters, and your exact location in longitude and latitude. The only GPS information displayed on the main screen is your speed and a green icon that indicates GPS is active and operational. I am not sure if the GPS-derived speed is also embedded in the metadata of the video recordings. You can also adjust the GPS indicated speed up or down a total of 6 mph in 2 mph increments to match your vehicle's speedometer reading. There is no map guidance built into the mirror, you'll need to use your phone or some other GPS device equipped with maps. Since a typical speedometer is less accurate than GPS, a reason why you would choose to make your GPS speed less accurate by choice escapes me.
Q: Does this record front AND back at the same time?
A: Yes, it does record from both cameras simultaneously. You have the option of having the front camera record in 4k resolution while the rear camera records in 1080p resolution. Alternatively, you can set both cameras to record at "2K" quality. Neither the manual nor the software makes clear what specific resolution that means. When you go into the SD card, there are different folders labeled "Front Camera" and "Rear Camera" that contain the video files from the respective cameras.
Q: The power is hard wired in an it shows low batterie and then goes off to a black screen.
A: Mine also did this after being installed for 3 months. I contacted Vantop and they walked me thru a bunch of troubleshooting, nothing helped. I ended up having to send mine back to Vantop and i am awaiting replacement. Its been a long process tho. I contacted them at the end of August and were in October now and i still have not received my replacement yet. Although tracking does show it is in transit. So i am hopeful.
A: Most dash cams need to be hard wired to the battery for the unit to operate while parked having a dash cam & not hard wiring it defeats the purpose
Q: Does it record your speed when driving?
A: If you also plug in the GPS receiver that is included, it will include your speed and location while driving.
