"Pennyworth" is the story of Bruce Wayne's future butler and father figure, from the people who brought us "Gotham." So this is a tale of an alternate "Swinging London" period of the 60s--when Alfred was much younger. While there are NO superpowers in the story, there are some exotic and over the top villains to be found. Only one of them gets anything like a costume, however. In this timeline, London is torn between rich fascists and poor "progressive" workers. Those two factions, much like in the video game Bioshock Infinite, are preparing for war. Alfred, himself, is basically a gangster. He comes home from war with PTSD, puts on a good suit, and takes up a violent trade as a problem solver. He finds himself working with all manner of shady characters--like spies and actual gangsters. This show is an interesting prequel to "Gotham," and it shows how their more "butt-kicking butler" came to be who he was.

I like this show. It's a new spin on the BATMAN lore. I love how they went this way with it, showing Alfred in his younger days before he became the butler for the WAYNE family. How Alfred, Thomas Wayne and Martha meet for the first time is unusual but interesting. Alfred wants the quiet life but after meeting Thomas and Martha he knows he can't escape very long. He's drawn back into the war to free London. This is the first time that they mention THE COURT OF OWLS. I didn't think that they'd do that, but I guess they had to start somewhere. This is going to be one interesting series. Can't wait to see the 2nd season. Pennyworth is worth a watch. You decide what you think.

Very well done. With a bit of a cliff hanger there will hopefully be a season 2. While occurring prior to the birth of Batman, it brings in several characters from Batman including his parents. However, it is an alternative universe with interesting characters and a suspenseful and action driven plot. It is definitely for adults.
