    Synopsis

    A Time to Kill
Carl Lee Hailey (Samuel L. Jackson) takes the law into his own hands after the legal system fails to adequately punish the men who brutally raped and beat his daughter, leaving her for dead. Normally, a distraught father could count on some judicial sympathy in those circumstances. Unfortunately, Carl and his daughter are black, and the assailants are white, and all the events take place in the South. Indeed, so inflammatory is the situation, that the local KKK (led by Kiefer Sutherland) becomes popular again. When Hailey chooses novice lawyer Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey) to handle his defense, it begins to look like a certainty that Carl will hang, and Jake's career (and perhaps his life) will come to a premature end. Despite the efforts of the NAACP and local black leaders to persuade Carl to choose some of their high-powered legal help, he remains loyal to Jake, who had helped his brother with a legal problem before the story begins. Jake eventually takes this case seriously enough to seek help from his old law-school professor (Donald Sutherland). When death threats force his family to leave town, Jake even accepts the help of pushy young know-it-all lawyer Ellen Roark (Sandra Bullock). ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This movie had it all...it was disturbing, touching, triumphant!. Excellent story, directing, cinematography, acting and cast. Two thumbs up!, can't believe I haven't seen this before now, it was recently recommended to me by a friend...'cause I was telling how much I loved Matthew McConaughey in Lincoln Lawyer...so he told me that I had to see A Time To Kill because Matthew M. is a lawyer in this movie :)

This ,oviedo really hits the heart,I cry every time I watched it, it's powerful, reminds me of how the justice system is portrayed, sadly with corruption and sometimes people take the matters into their hands, this movie is super sad for me and has a powerful massage.

This movie is one of my favorites. The actors are superb. Even though the subject matter can raise a little tension, the director was able to pull off an awesome ending that eventually allowed justice to reign. Kudos!!

A Time to Kill may have been released in 1994, but it is as relevant today as it was then. Fantastic performances all around from Jackson to McConaughey and even to Spacey. Everyone brings their all to this great courtroom thriller.

I loved this movie! I think it shows that where racial intolerance exists there are always people who want to fight for what's right. I didn't like the violence but it was necessary to make the point about social injustices.

This is a great movie that shows the racial divide in this country. Samuel L Jackson is so powerful in this and the whole movie gives a feeling of hope for the future.
