Synopsis

Alex Cross
A lawman is torn between justice and personal vengeance in this action drama. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is a detective and forensic psychologist who works for the Detroit Police Department with his partner Tommy Kane (Edward Burns) and promising rookie Monica Ashe (Rachel Nichols). While Cross is dedicated to his work, he's just as committed to his home life, and is excited to learn he and his wife Maria (Carmen Ejogo) will be welcoming a third child. When a wealthy and well-connected woman is found dead and partially dismembered in her mansion, police chief Richard Brookwell (John C. McGinley) assigns Cross and his team to the case, and they soon find themselves playing a cat and mouse game with a nameless psychotic (Matthew Fox) with a taste for torture and a grudge against some of the Motor City's wealthiest citizens. Clues point to French financier Leon Mercier (Jean Reno) as the killer's ultimate victim, but Cross and his team suspect Mercier has a secret he isn't willing to share, and the case becomes a personal obsession for Cross when the maniac first kills Monica and then Maria. Also starring Giancarlo Esposito and Cicely Tyson, Alex Cross marked Tyler Perry's debut as an action hero, playing the protagonist of James Patterson's series of best-selling crime novels; Cross was previously played on screen by Morgan Freeman in the films Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I found the movie entertaining and I think Tyler Perry did a great job. Is it the best movie in the world? No. But I think that people are being extremely critical. I think it is being rated unfairly and it deserves a chance. I liked the story. Quite honesty, most movies are predictable. It is rare to find a movie that is creative, good acting, amazing story line etc. If the way this movie is being rated was the same judgment scale of some of these other box office films, the 4.8 would be much higher. I think people are judging Tyler Perry by his other film and plays versus by the movie that is actually being reviewed. I thought he did a great job in the movie and I believe it is worth seeing. I enjoyed it and I think a lot of viewers did too. Unfortunately, everyone acts like they are a movie critic and only wants the same people doing movies.

Idris Elba was originally cast in the lead role. Apparently before the budget was cut dramatically. Had they stuck with that decision, this film could have been a great deal better. As it is, Tyler Perry is awful as the lead. Every scene with him speaking made me cringe. I knew this movie was a throw away when I read a producer's quote (after switching from Idris to Tyler) that said, "if you can get Will Smith or Tyler Perry, you do it"... Like Perry is in the same league as Will Smith when it comes to mass market, big budget films. Yes, he's had a fair amount of success, but in a very narrow range of film types.

I have read the entire Alex Cross series and I was so disappointed in the movie. Perry was good as Alex Cross, but how can Alex not have his life long friend Samson in the movie? And Cicely Tyson as Nana momma? She was a great actress in her day, but her slurred speech for Nana the retired demanding school teacher was a poor cast. I'm sorry I bought the movie. They need to do another movie and stay closer to the books.

Tyler Perry actually surprised me with this one. I never thought he could do anything other than play Madia. He played this roll well. I can see him branching out more and doing roles like this one. Good movie. The weak area was the script. At times I felt like my son wrote the script. Tyler Perry did NOT write this movie. He was just an actor in this one. Glad I saw this movie.

The story line and subplots bring the story to life to include the human nature of each character's struggle with their inner feelings and maintaining an objective outlook in order to solve the crimes. It would not mr a difference if the book is read before or after. Reading the book will only enhance the the movie experience.

I found this to be the best of the Alex Cross movies so far. Morgan Freeman is an exceptional actor but was too old to be cast as Alex Cross. Tyler Perry is a good casting choice and he did a splendid job with the role. This is the Alex Cross I had in my head when reading the books.

Tyler Perry as Alex Cross, is a convincing a homicide detective/psychologist in Detroit who must track down a serial killer. This is a high-stakes game of cat and mouse that is both terrifying and personal. This thriller will challenge your ethical/psychological boundaries!

Watching all the previous Alex Cross movies, the professor type persona of Morgan Freeman is a tough act to follow. But, after watching six seasons of Lost with Matthew Fox as a good guy, his role as the villain in this movie is outstanding!
