With multi-room music, you can play music on compatible Echo devices in different rooms. Echo can also play Audible audiobooks, radio stations, news briefs, and more.
Tell Alexa to play jazz in the kitchen, top pop in the family room, or play the same song throughout your whole home.
Voice control your home
Use Echo to switch on the lamp before getting out of bed, turn on the coffee maker on your way to the kitchen, or dim the lights from the couch to watch a movie — all without lifting a finger.
Ask Alexa to turn on the TV, turn up the volume, change the channel, or play your favorite movie. Echo can control your Fire TV and select devices from Sony, Dish, and Logitech.
Control multiple devices at scheduled times or with a single voice command, like locking the doors and turning off the lights when you go to bed.
Echo works with lights, locks, switches, thermostats and more from WeMo, Philips Hue, SmartThings, Insteon, Nest, ecobee, and Wink.
Hands-free calling and messaging
You can talk to almost anyone - no tapping or searching required. Use Drop In to instantly connect to another compatible Echo at home or send an announcement across Echo devices, like calling the family for dinner or reminding the kids to go to bed.
Plus, now with Skype calling stay in touch with friends and family in over 150 countries.
Additionally, you can send messages via voice or text to anyone with a supported Echo device or the Alexa app.
Let your household know when dinner is ready, ask someone for help with a chore, or remind the kids to go to sleep — without having to raise your voice.
With the Drop In feature enabled for room-to-room calling, instantly connect with compatible Echo devices in your home.
Far-field voice recognition
Tucked under the light ring is an array of seven microphones that use beamforming technology and enhanced noise cancellation.
The 2nd generation Echo has improved wake-word performance to hear you ask a question from any direction — even in noisy environments or while playing music at loud volumes.
When you want to use Echo, simply say the wake word, "Alexa," and Echo lights up and connects to the cloud, where the Alexa Voice Service recognizes and responds to your request instantly.
Echo has skills
Echo has tens of thousands of skills and counting.
Skills add even more capabilities, such as ordering a pizza from Domino's, requesting a ride from Uber, tracking your fitness with Fitbit, controlling your TV with Dish and more. To enable new skills, just ask Alexa.
New skills are being added all the time. You can also see ratings and reviews to learn what other customers are saying about the thousands of skills available in the Alexa app.
Always getting smarter
Alexa is always getting smarter - the more you use Echo, the more Alexa adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences. And because Echo is always connected, updates are delivered automatically.

- A:Answer Hi Sunspot, You must first connect (or link) your music service (Pandora, I heart radio, spotify, siriusxm) with your Echo first. Open your app and touch the three horizontal bars on the top left of the app. When it opens, touch Music, Video & Books. Scroll down until you see your music service and touch that name. When it opens, you will see the "Link Your Account" in blue. Just touch there and follow the prompts. Repeat that with your other services and there you go. Alexa will also wake you to your favorite station or song in the morning. In the menu, go to Reminders & Alarms. You can tell her to wake you at the same time every day, or set it to a different time each night. Touch "Manage Alarm Volume", you can adjust the volume of your alarm in the morning. The first time I set the alarm, I did not do this and it awakened me quite abruptly:) If you have any other problems, you can call Amazon tech Support and follow the prompts until you get to Echo support. They are open 24 hours a day. Good Luck! I hope you enjoy yours, as much as I am enjoying mine. Happy Holidays P.S. There are many things you can link to your Echo... lights, plugs, switches, A/C controllers, cameras, motion sensors.... that will allow you to turn on lights and other features just by saying... Alexa, turn on Master bedroom light.

Q: QuestionI have an iPhone 6s. My husband does not have an iPhone. I have Pandora on my iPhone. Can my husband ask Alexa to play music while I am at work? If so, will I be using data from my iPhone plan?
Asked by Annmarie.
This question was asked about the related product: Amazon - Echo (2nd Gen) - Smart Speaker with Alexa - Charcoal Fabric
- A:Answer Hi, You can link your Alexa to your Pandora account. You can also link it to your Sirius, I Heart Radio, Spotify, Tunein, Amazon Music unlimited accounts. Go into the Alexa app and touch the three horizontal slashes on the top left to open the menu. Then, touch Music, Videos & Books. Then you will touch Pandora or either of the other services and follow the instructions to link your Pandora account to the Alexa. It will give you easy to follow directions to do this. Once it is connected, you will be able to ask Alexa to play any of the stations you have created on Pandora. You will also be able to ask Alexa to create a new station just by asking her to play a station you do not already have. She will ask you if you want her to create that station. Just say yes and it is saved to your account. Connecting to music on your Echo will have no affect on your data plan on your phone. These are two completely separate things. One other thing you can do is ask her to pause your music (if you receive a phone call or someone comes to the door), and then resume when you are ready (Alexa, pause music) You can also ask her to stop playing music in 15 (or any time amount you set) minutes at the end of the night when going to sleep. If you want to wake to music, you can ask Alexa to wake you at 6:30 am to a favorite radio station you have. To adjust the volume for the alarm, go into menu, then Reminders & Alarms, then alarms. The top line says "Manage alarm volume and default sound". Touch that and move the black dot to where you want it to be. At 50%, it is pretty loud, so do a test alarm to see where you want it to be. Good Luck and Happy New year!
