Q: how is this for downloading and reading books
A: My 55 yr old eyes were beginning to think we should try a paperwhite, but I read a lot. A whole lot since I broke my back. However, i have been using my kindle fire since the beginning to read and it's been awesome, and still is. And you can't look at color magazines or picture books, or listen to a book while reading it unles you're doing your reading on a fire, so think about all that you can't do on a plain reader. I just turn the screen brightness down when I read, and it's perfect. So I won't be wasting money on the very limited paperwhite or voyager either, after all, lol . And if you turn off your wifi by putting the fire on airplane mode, you'll extend your battery life significantly. And the fire has all the features like notes, instant lookups in dictionary and Wikipedia, prime, unlimited (which more than pays for itself every month),goodreads, that the readers have. So, enjoy your new FireHD ;-)
Q: does the 6 inch 16gb for $119.00 come with all the adds on it or is it add free?
A: Comes with the ads, but they're very non-intrusive. I don't mind them at all. It's only when you turn it on/wake it up, but you only have to swipe the ad away. You gotta swipe it to unlock it anyways, ad or no ad. If you buy it with the ads, you can always pay the extra money later to disable them through Amazon's store.
Q: What battery life should I expect if I'm reading? What about web browsing?
A: I'd have to say it really depends on where you are completing the reading and web-browsing. If I am at home (brick/aluminum siding) where internet towers are everywhere, my battery will usually last 2-3 days depending on how much I do of each on each day. If I'm at my parents house who live more in the country and internet towers are not as readily available my battery has to be charged every day no matter how much I use it.
A: Yes, this is the newer Fire HD.
Q: DO THESE AMAZON FIRES HAVE AMAZON PRIME?
A: No, they do not come with Amazon Prime.
Q: Ok...I'm confused...on Youtube it shows Kindle Fire HD with a mini data port .
A: The only port on the Kindle 6" is a micro-USB port which can be used for charging the Kindle battery and also it can connect to a desktop or laptop computer through the standard USB on the other end of the usual cable. If you want to connect by HDMI, you should check any one of many gadget shops (like computerguys.com) and order a connector cable. That should have a microUSB male connector on one end and a standard HDMI male connector on the other.
Q: audio books
A: Yes but only digital, not cd
A: Not sure about the Xray, but, with the last update to Amazon Fire Stick, I was able to use my TV, cloning my computer screen. The performance is limited to WIFI bandwidth and probably only good for powerpoint or basic office functions. Streaming video does not work well.
