The ASUS ROG Mothership is a truly amazing laptop!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the most awesome laptop I have ever purchased and came on the heels of my original ASUS ROG 2015 model, which began showing signs of instability this spring. The ASUS ROG Mothership is very pricey, especially if you aren't necessarily into gaming, but it is nonetheless a very powerful solid state device with an incredible RAM of 64GB, an excellent version of Windows 10 Pro, and an i9 Intel Core. The only unusual thing about it is that the keyboard detaches completely from the computer itself and the screen sits on your desk, propped up by a kick-out support that potentially could be knocked over in the event of a hit or an earthquake. Aside from this inconvenience, however, the rest of the laptop is amazing. It has cycling colors continuously running through the bottom part of the screen, below the chargers for the keyboard, as well as on the mouse (which is wired) and the keyboard itself. Although for most people who don't do gaming, this feature could easily have been dispensed with, since the colorful lights really use up energy and aren't particularly useful, it is a very striking feature one gets used to. This is probably what makes the Mothership so uniquely different--it is almost like a rocket ship launching into space and its start-up sound, when the power button is hit, sounds like the "whoosh" of a small spaceship engine. I have been told this laptop will probably last while, given its power, RAM and over 1 Terabyte of space, but only time will tell. I personally needed a new ASUS that wouldn't crash on me, can store thousands of files, and is long-lasting. If that is what you are looking for, and you don't mind the price, this laptop is the one for you. I also found that the keys are very soft, and don't require as much tapping as other makes and models. Since it is prone to attracting dust, however, you might want to ensure covering it with a light dust cover, unless you decide to close it down by putting the keyboard back on its charger at night and then laying it down on your desk. I prefer keeping mine open, since it is not easy (nor recommended) to detach the keyboard every single day and extend the support piece repeatedly. It should really be treated as a miniature desktop, since that is precisely what this is. One last thing is the original packaging. I have never seen a laptop come with this kind of wrapping and added bonuses, but considering the price, I suppose that should be expected. The ASUS ROG Mothership came in no less than three black and beautifully inscribed boxes that opened up like a puzzle. It had a personal letter from the CEO of the company as well as "gifts," such as an unusual 3D logo that is fun to put together on your own and some extra gaming software. But the best part is that it came in a huge box that also contained no less than 2 gorgeous zippered backpacks (one soft and one rigid) in which to carry the laptop, made of the highest quality material! The price of these backpacks alone makes the purchase worthwhile, since they can easily be used for other purposes if you don't intend carrying your ASUS around. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend the ASUS ROG Mothership to anyone looking for a VERY sophisticated laptop, but particularly to gamers!
