Synopsis

Bad Teacher
A booze-swilling, pot-smoking, hard-swearing seventh-grade teacher rallies to get out of the classroom for good by wrangling a rich substitute teacher into marriage in this comedy from director Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story). Cynical teacher Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) hates her job. She can't wait for the day she finds a man who makes enough cash to let her walk away from her life of middle-school misery, and when her fiancé cancels their wedding plans, her frantic search intensifies. Just when it starts to look like Elizabeth will have to muscle her way through another semester of skull-crushing hangovers, however, handsome substitute Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) shows up at school sporting a fancy wristwatch and the promise of a care-free future. But in order to earn her meal ticket, Elizabeth will have to out-cute perky fellow teacher Amy (Lucy Punch). And it won't be easy, because Scott is crushing on Amy hard. Now, if Elizabeth can just motivate her students to study so that she can win a state contest to earn enough cash for some new breast implants, perhaps she can finally find a means of diverting Scott's gaze. Meanwhile, much to Elizabeth's chagrin, wisecracking, self-effacing gym teacher Russell (Jason Segel) refuses to admit defeat despite being turned down for a date by his gold-digging colleague time and again. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

She’s a teacher and she’s bad? Genius! How’d you come up with that? Give that man, or rather those men, gold stars. Yes, it took two men to write this script. And the result? I almost feel stupid typing it. Cameron Diaz is Elizabeth Halsey. An aspiring trophy wife whose hopes are dashed when her spineless fiancée calls off their wedding at the urging of his mother and financial advisors. So she returns tail between her legs, to teaching middle school. A job she took because she believed it required little effort and offered a summer vacation. And, almost immediately, she discovers a teacher from a wealthy family trying to find his classroom. She makes her intentions very clear, though Scott, the teacher (played by Justin Timberlake) doesn’t catch on. And soon her efforts appear in vain when Scott (Timberlake) encounters the ridiculously named Amy Squirrel (played by Lucy Punch) whose hokey goodhearted nature ranges from annoying to nauseating. In addition, Diaz’s character maintains a friendship with the gym teacher (Jason Segel) based in shared apathy and sarcasm. Is it funny? It has its moments, but overall the comparisons made between this and Bad Santa are accurate. Bad Santa being the role Billy Bob Thornton liked so much that he played it several times in “different” movies as characters with different names. This facsimile, on the other hand, is tame by comparison in addition to being largely dependant on the looks of its 38 year-old star who really should’ve past this sort of thing. Lowest common denominator drivel.

Seen parts of this movie on FX and decided it could be funnier in it's original format. So I ordered this movie and it was actually descent. Not big on Cameron Diaz but I am a fan of Jason Segel and as always he is on par in this film. The plot and the setting of this movie reminds me if there was a darker version out there of School of Rock, then this film would be it!

This is not Shakespeare and should not be reviewed as such. THIS MOVIE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO REAL LIFE. This is a study in the extremes of human moral values and for me that was fun. It does go pretty far sometimes but never too far. I am also a giant Justin Timberlake fan and he is great in this movie.

If you enjoy Cameron Diaz talking dirty in hot pants, then you'll love this farcical installment of "How I spent my formative years in public school". The movie has it's moments, but unfortunately the trailers are more entertaining than the movie. Then again, Ms. Diaz does look good in Hot Pants.

I'm not a huge Cameron Diaz fan but I purchased the DVD thinking the film might be enjoyable since it had been recentky been adapted to a short-lived TV series. However, I did not find the movie very funny and found it to be an insult to real life hard-working teachers.

If you are looking for a mindless funny movie, this is it! Get lost in the movie, laugh and the funny stuff, and shrug off the often far reached scenarios that are presented within this movie. Overall I would recommend the movie, but only for the mindless laugh.

Who rated this movie more than three stars? Get real, this movie isn't even trying for more than three. Except for the car wash scene, it's a solid three star flick. Someone should have a talk with Cameron Diaz about her actual age.
