      Disc Replacement Program 6-4-15

There is missing footage during the episode, THE MAGNIFICENT WARRIORS, on disc 3 of the widescreen version of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - on both the Remastered Collection and Definitive Collection. The issue is being fixed and consumers can get a replacement disc by emailing USHEConsumerRelations@visionmediamgmt.com. Consumers should include: 1 - "Battlestar Galactica Classic Collection: BD" in the subject line of their email, 2 - the following text in the body of the email, "I would like to receive a replacement disc for (Disc 3, Episode "The Magnificent Warriors")." Within 24-48 hours, consumers will get a response asking for their mailing address in the United States or Canada. Shortly thereafter, they will receive a postage-paid envelope for them to mail in their disc with the missing footage from THE MAGNIFICENT WARRIORS. 2-3 weeks later they will receive a replacement disc with the complete episode. Thanks to tvshowsondvd.com for their 6-4-15 posting. In my opinion, regarding video quality. 1 - Full Screen version - very good but not excellent. 2 - Widescreen version - below average (and it appears as if was re-mastered by someone other than those who re-mastered the full screen version). Even at $79, I wouldn't say it's worth it nor would I recommend the widescreen version based on picture quality. If this is updated in the future, it will be posted under comments as Best Buy doesn't allow these reviews to be edited once posted.

"Frak" the rest, this release is the best!!! Picked up my set at the local Best Buy last week, since they actually had the best price for this set ($5 less than Amazon). Only got through the contents of the first disc so far, but am impressed by the remastered picture and sound quality. It's definitely an improvement over the older DVD set. This "definitive" edition that comes in the RED COLORED BOX is the version to get if you want to watch it in its original broadcast ratio 1.33:1 (this set also includes the "widescreen" (cropped) version, but being a purist, I'm going to stick to the full frame version). The series still holds up amazingly well, and yes, the battle scenes get repetitive as the series goes on, but I suppose that's part of the charm. A childhood favorite of mine, now to be enjoyed with my own kids...thanks Universal for producing this set!!!

It is hard to pick which side of the argument I want to be on for this box set. First, it is great to see the series put to blue ray and given both the High def treatment AND remastered in widescreen, but at the same time, I wish they would have spent the money and time to really enhance the special effects and truly bring this show to life -- so, for what it is: the original series and Galactica 1980 with an additional uncut version of the movie, this is a great set and kudos to them.... worth buying if you do not already own them. If you do, the smaller version that does not include both standard and remastered versions is probably enough for most.... In the end, this set will really be a benefit to my research for an upcoming book and comic series based on the original series!!

The original Battlestar Galactica series in full screen and widescreen format in blu-ray. The Definitive collection also has the movie that started it all, what more could you ask for? It has seasons 1-3 so you will have hours of entertainment with family and friends. Looks better than the DVD version I bought years ago. I would highly recommend this collection to all Sci-fi fans. For the fans that bought the Definitive and the Re-mastered collection, disc three of the widescreen version of Battlestar Galactica series, there is missing footage during the episode, THE MAGNIFICENT WARRIORS. To get a free replacement disc three, go up to digital bits website to get the information on the replacement program.

Having grown up through out the 70's and being a fan of Sci-Fi, it was only natural that I would take a liking to Battlestar Galactica. One of the things I liked about the show is that they used the 'mythology' for lack of a better word that there were different tribes of humans with the people of Earth being the lost tribe. The SFX are a little dated of course but for the late 70's and a TV budget, they did a pretty good job still. I would love to see them do like they did with the original Star Trek and go through each episode and update the effects to make them look more realistic... maybe some day. Anyway, if you enjoyed Galactica in your youth, you'll likely enjoy this set, specially with it including the movie and spin off show Galactica 1980

For those of you, like me, that caught this series in it's original run, this Blu-ray release has been long awaited. While most of the special effects are taken from the original movie pilot (due to it's over budget issues) and despite some of the repetition, most episodes have faired well. The biggest issue for me, and why I chose the DEFINITIVE collection, is that there's a difference in the Widescreen presentation from the original TV-sized episodes. Some brightness and detail are somewhat watered down in the Widescreen (probably because it had to be rescanned for 16:9), while the original 4:3 has been meticulously restored. So it's like Beta vs. VHS, if you don't watch them side by side, you may not notice this defect. I did.

This collection contains both the original series "Battlestar Galactica" as well as its follow up series "Galactica 1980". Each series is presented in both the original aspect ratio of 4:3 as well as in wide screen. There is a huge difference in picture quality between the two. The 4:3 picture quality is incredible but surprisingly the widescreen picture quality looks awful. Fortunately I really only wanted the series in its OAR (original aspect ratio, the way it was meant to be seen) not cropped and stretched into a wide screen format. The widescreen collection can be purchased separately but if you want to enjoy this show the way that is was meant to be seen, then you have to buy this set.

Forget the recent remake series that could never seem to figure out how it was going to go. If you want a great BSG experience, then this is the box set to get. This box set has the original movie, the complete series, and the Galatica 1980 follow-on (which while not as good as the original still had some great moments). Solid space and ground action, great stories, great characters richly acted out and a wonderful family dynamic in the form of the Adama family - Adama, Apollo, Athena, Boxey and informally adopted member Starbuck. AL in updated 1080P widescreen resolution.
