    Synopsis

    Blood Diamond
A South African mercenary and a Mende fisherman find their fates forever intertwined as they embark on a quest to obtain a rare and highly coveted pink diamond in director Edward Zwick's frantic adventure drama. Ripped from his family farm and forced to toil away in the sweltering South African diamond fields, Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) discovered an extraordinary rough stone of immeasurable value. Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a hired gun who specializes in the sale of so-called "blood diamonds" that are used to finance rebellions and terrorist organizations, and is currently serving time for smuggling. As a bloody civil war rages in Sierra Leone and Archer learns that Vandy has safely hidden the diamond in a place where no one would ever suspect, the pair enlist the aid of disillusioned American journalist Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly) in recovering the treasure that has the power to save Vandy's family and provide the desperate Archer with a much-needed chance for redemption. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

One of the best action dramas from last year.

Africa has been in turmoil for a long time, so when diamonds are coveted around the western world, they fuel a fire of civil unrest in Sierra Leone. Playing his best role to date, Leonardo Dicaprio shows us the daily dangerous life of a diamond smuggler. While fighting the external battles in this conflict, he similarly wrestles with his past and seeks to rationalize his actions to a female activist journalist who is trying to bring the blood diamond trade to the forefront of consumer awareness. Djimon Hounsou gives a great performance as a Mende fisherman whose tries to keep his family safe in the middle of the civil war. This movie shows how children warriors are impressed and brainwashed into being a part of the turmoil. This movie is one of the best Action/Drama films of last year.

Leonardo DiCaprio leads an ensemble cast of stars, in this gritty gut wrenching drama based on Real world Sierra Leone "Dirty Diamonds" trading and selling. Not for the faint of heart, The heart felt emotion provided by the citizens of small villages gunned down and torn away from their families is captivating. A crippling story of perseverance and the will to do what is right will keep you asking for more. Also exclusively on Bluray there is a documentary featurette based on the real struggle in Sierra Leone that must be seen as well. Next time you buy diamonds make sure you know they are conflict free!

Edward Zwick's second best film, "Blood Diamond" tells the story of one man who hides a diamond and is separated from his family (Djimon Hounsou) and one man who wants to find the diamond (Leonardo DiCaprio). Together, they try to help each other meet their goals -- much like in a working economy, supply and demand are balanced. While not quite as good as "Glory," the film manages to be compelling and among 2006's best dramas. At 143 minutes, the film never feels too long. The DVD's special features are extensive. Fans of the film will want to purchase the 2-disc special edition over the decrepit single disc. Highly recommended.

First of all, Jennifer Connelly's character in this movie is the absolute perfect woman and I would marry her (real life or character) in a heartbeat. And for the ladies, Leo has an accent. Multiple accents throughout the movie actually. The plot is great, this is based on actual events that more people should be aware of. I've seen the toughest people in the world have tears invoked from watching this cinematographically perfect masterpiece. This movie will truly change your outlook on life, love, and the integrity of the human spirit. All for the better.

As civil war rages through 1990s Sierra Leone, two men, a white South African mercenary (Leonardo DiCaprio) and a black Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou), become joined in a common quest to recover a rare gem that has the power to transform their lives. With the help of an American journalist (Jennifer Connelly), the men embark on a hazardous trek through rebel territory to achieve their goal. Used to own on HD DVD, sold that off a long time ago. Finally bought the Blu-ray recently. Great movie with a great cast.

this movie was great. leo speaks something ive never heard before but hes still good, good enough to get nominated i guess. the story is scadered all over the place but not to confusing, its mostly a survival story. there is a lot of violence but it looks real and most of the action scenes are well done. like the battle in that town when even the military surebdered to the bad guys. a lot of this movie just shows you how harsh some countries really are and you should respect that, like how rambo was. overall, this was a solid adventure movie.

This movie is a very powerful and interesting movie. IT tells the story of the illegal diamond smuggling in Sierra Lione and has a subplot of the the child soldiers that are prevelant throughout Africa. The acting is very good and the roles are played almost to perfection. THe only problem I have with the movie is there was a love story thrown in at the end of the movie. This angered me only because it makes the movie to similar to many other movies. However, besides that, the movie is great and I definetly recommend it.

This is an amazing film that shouldn't be missed. Running time is perfect and the music is great. The picture quality is a bit disappointing, considering the amount of ridiculously beautiful scenes there are in the film. Sound mixing is spot-on, there are only a few moments where there is no activity and it feels a bit dull.
