Boost Mobile - Kyocera Hydro Edge No-Contract Cell Phone - Black

This Kyocera Hydro Edge is so nice and clear. Battery life is great. the reception is crispy clear and so easy to use.

I got the original hydro back in January when I switched to Boost from T-mobile. The original was ok but for me anyway crashed quite a lot. This is basically the same phone with a bigger screen and a newer version of android with a somewhat redesigned case; the EDGE is a tremendous improvement over the original. Android 4.1 tosses a few things you got used to with 4.0 in the way you shut down running programs and you can a lot more easily rearrange your home screens. They moved the power button from the side to the top, moved the usb/power socket to the bottom of the case and got rid of the waterproof door that used to be over it, there is also now a dedicated camera button and they improved the latch on the back battery door of the phone. All those changes made a good phone even better. Like all the phones these days it's plastic and doesn't feel really hefty like my old HTC phone, I guess that's everything these days light and thin and because of all that you don't seem to see extended batteries for any phone anymore I guess they expect you to buy those battery packs to recharge from. I was attracted to this because i ride my motorcycle a lot in the rainy season and I've been caught in more than a few downpours. A lot of fellow riders got their phones soaked and a few even got them so wet they wouldn't dry out. I like this phone because no more worries about rain storms, it can even be mounted on the handlebars in the pouring rain and wouldn't be hurt. It can be immersed in three feet of water for thirty minutes according to claims. If you've got a two year old that thinks everything needs a bath including your phone this might attract you as well. I tend to have a lot of apps on my phone, have had one or two cause problems that worked ok on the old phone but that is probably due to the newer os and the need for updates. The eco mode that comes with this phone is adequate, you shouldn't need a third party power saver app, I had one on here but it seemed to cause issues so i took it off. The only real annoyance is the "insistence" of using wifi over 3g, it causes problems if there are no open wifi resources, it will keep trying to use it even if you shut off wifi it turns it back on and tries some more. I like this phone a lot, don't need no stinking overpriced galaxy or iphone this is enough for me and at the price I wouldn't shoot myself if I lost it or it somehow got destroyed.

I'm not tech savvy and I've resisted getting a touchscreen but this phone has made the transition fairly easy. It does have a lot of extra things running and I can't tell if they're things I need or things I can delete. I was receiving a "messaging has stopped" error but the BB folks cleared the data and the cache and I haven't received the message since. I did receive an "applications have stopped" message yesterday. I'm sure the solution is as easy as the messaging error was but I haven't found it yet. So far I have been happy with the battery life. I leave it in Econo Mode (though it does turn itself off from time to time) and I do not use WiFi but the battery lasts from about 6am-9pm or longer. I'm happy with this phone.

I have been using the casio GZ series of flip phones. but they are no longer being produced. and the kyocera torque is sprint only. the hydro is really good for its price range. i like the large screen. if i dont screw around too much i can go all day on one charge. but since it uses a usb micro plug for power, i can charge it almost anywhere. the touch screen works well. i can type ok with just fingertips. hulu and netflix work great. call audio is sometimes iffy, mostly if there is any background noise. get a case and screen protector, after that its a pretty good phone.

I bought this phone for a friend and he loved it what's great is it has all the advantages of a smart phone for the cost of less then normal also he has a son so the water proof is an extra advantage. You are also able to price match at bestbuy from most stores I only ended up paying 55 dollars for this phone after price matching it is s great phone only downfall is there is no front facing camera

Overall phone is good, quality, sound, and water resistant makes it great, but while pictures are good they could be better and battery life for someone who is glued to their phone like my teenage daughter dosent seem to be that great.

It needs a front facing camera. A low storage warning keeps popping up so I bought a memory card and that didn't help. There is not even enough memory to update the apps that came already installed and you can't uninstall them.

Its a very good phone and a great price, its also waterproof. It takes good pictures and records good but the service is kinda bad. Dosen't get service everywhere.
