I purchased this Samsung J3 Emerge in November 2017, it worked great at first, and I have been very careful not to drop it or get it wet as I carry it in a backpack when I skate and wrap it in a sweater. Well, just 5 days ago my antenna died, as in I can not receive calls unless I can physically see a Virgin Mobile tower, and it will not receive a 4GLTE signal or even a 3G signal anymore, and I just topped up and have 2 gigs left of high speed data left in my plan as of writing this, I am using wifi at a coffee shop to write this. I thought originally a windstorm knocked out my local Virgin Mobile Cell Tower, but I had previously downloaded maps of the cell towers in my area and went longboarding to them, no 3G or 4GLTE signal, only a minimal phone signal for calls and texts, so it must be my phone. Anyway, I will not be buying a Samsung device again, while this phone has nice features and all, if the antenna doesnt work then it is essentially a lo-fi camera with wifi. Do yourself a favor and do not purchase this phone, it is a waste of your money, sad really because before the antenna ceased to function I wouldve given this device 5 stars, but now only 2 stars, its trash and I am disappointed in Samsung, and it conveniently happened just a few weeks after the 90 day warranty expired, talk about planned obsolence. Virgin Mobile is a good service and I will keep using their service as they never did me wrong when I had a Kyocera Rise, but this Samsung is garbage, do not buy.

Looks Like a Phone....Dont Waste Your Time

Total junk. Dont waste your time or money. There are literally endless options other than this phone. It is inconvenient and slow and poorly thought out. How can a company like Alcatel make a more useful device? I broke my last phone and decided to spring for a Samsung Galaxy! I thought i finally made it. it was more than all my other phones and when i started using it i very quickly felt the value of the phone fall and keep falling. Theres no options? the camera sucks? navigation dosent make sense? theres a period between all of my words when i text? These were the start of the short comings of this device. I am not a novice, ive had at least 20 phones in my life and ive never wanted to post a review for any of them! because they all worked! this is a piece of junk and i hope that everyone considering this phone will see this review and think again. NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!

It works! Finally upgraded from my old by-the-minute traditional phone after weeks of comparison shopping. The improvement is awesome, and for a lower cost as well. The choice was simplified after choosing a non contract provider, which greatly reduced the available choices. Long battery life and excellent sound quality were two big concerns, which this model has. Furthermore, batteries have a finite life, so a replaceable battery was also important and further narrowed the choices to two, both Samsung. This model was well under $100,making it well worth trying. It works far better than I expected. Want a better camera and more memory with a faster processor, go with the more expensive model for an extra $100. Otherwise this appears to be one of the better phone values today.

I had purchased this phone for myself earlier this year on my carrier account, this review is for the Boost service and phone. This is the phone my nephew picked out after reading reviews and asking me how I liked mine. It was on sale at the time as well. He has no complaints thus far and the Boost service is doing him well. He is paying for everything himself, rare for a 14yr old in this day and age but he bought within his budget and has been very happy. I taught him how to utilize the wifi as to save his data so he could use the cheaper plan option. For a long trip or vacation with a little planning he can get the unlimited for that month and be all set for being away from wifi access and then go back to the lesser plan the following month. I really like the prepaid service thus far and I am strongly considering doing the same.

Although it appears to have an LED indicator it doesn't. There is no visual alert when the phone is charged or when I have new messages which the model I had before did. I would have thought this model would have had those features since it was 3 years newer. The older phone I had also had an auto dimmer for the display so when you were out and bright sunny was brighter when you were inside in the evening it dimmed. I liked that feature but I'm sure I'll get used to not having it. All in all, I do still like the Samsung products. Needs more memory. Next time, I'll just have to be sure that I shop all the features before I make a purchase.

I'm usually very happy with Samsung products and this one didn't disappoint!! For around $100-$150 range this phone gives you majority of the savvy features of the phones that are up to 3-4x the cost!! Would recommend it to anyone wanting an excellent newer techie smartphone and even those new to the smartphone experience (Samsung has an excellent user interface and with the easy setup mode and user guides- you actually learn all the cool things your phone can do!!) --- wish they made this phone in an edge style or waterproof version even if it meant a hike in the price. Only other drawback is it takes awhile to charge. Other then that Samsung hasn't disappointed me yet!

I purchased this phone as a gift for my father, who struggles with change. His biggest complaint is regarding the size of the keyboard. I agree the buttons are very small and very close together. I struggle to help him send texts as well. It’s even more frustrating because if you use multiple languages on the keyboard the languages somehow change unexpectedly and then you struggle to type text with auto correct until you realize the language was changed again. Otherwise it’s an improvement on his previous phone just wish the keyboard was more user friendly.
