Hi, Everybody: Before buying this, you obviously need to check that your lens is a 52mm lens and not of a different size. For example, the new Nikon D 3400 does not have a 52mm size lens, but the D 3300 and D 5300 do use a 52mm lens. When I was attending track and cross country meets and also bicycle races as a spectator in the recent years, I saw some other people with cameras that had these tulip style lens hood attachments, and I felt their cameras looked a lot more sophisticated with them. I wanted one myself as a status symbol, because I have the Nikon D 3300. In other words, I wanted to look like I had a super-nice camera too, and that is really the main reason or certainly the original one that I got this type of product! I watched a lot of videos about tulip style lens hoods on YouTube and did my research online and also in-person locally in a competing store, finding that this item is about the best in-store deal I could get in terms of cost for the product. Last October I was using the D 3300 to photograph a 26.2-mile marathon, and this was before I got the lens hood. While I have not opened the package as of yet, I do plan to use the hood to photograph the same marathon if it is held again this year, and I also plan to use it for other purposes like photographing and/or video recording bicycle races! It comes with a lens cap, so if I lose my original lens cap I will have this additional one. My understanding is it is also reversible, so it can be stored with the camera and be used to help protect the lens from bumps when the camera is out of its bag. Again, while I have not yet opened the package, I definitely have to give this five stars for the cost! Thanks and Happy Adventures, John

The lens hood is well made for the price. The mount is threaded for filter use, but be careful of vignetting on wide angles. The hood is reversible for storage if the lens barrel is not too large. For instance it will reverse on my 18-55mm lens, but not on the 55-200mm. My only issue so far has been vignetting at 18mm with the hood and a UV filter attached.

This works well enough for me, as a beginner photographer--however, I feel I must advise that when you screw it onto the tip of your lens, don't do it too tightly! I must have made this mistake, because I had put it on my lens, and it was stuck on it for over a month before it finally loosened up. Just so you know! Other than this little mishap, it does everything I want it to. I'll just have to be careful as to how tight I screw it on!

Not sure the hood is really useful

I found that when the lens is fully adjusted to get the maximum picture at a far distance, the lens hood cast a shadow at the side of the photo. I shot photos on an extensive overseas trip and saw no difference to the quality of a photo when using the hood. The lens cap worked just fine but if purchasing again, I would look for one that could be anchored to the camera when not in use to prevent losing the cap.

I needed a lens hood for one of my lenses and this works well once I figured it out. There were no instructions included in the package. I just yesterday discovered that when I attach a polarizing filter in front of this the corners are obstructed when I shoot at wide angle. It is not always a problem, but one needs to know that that wide angle is not quite so wide with the hood attached.

This Hood doesn't work with D5300 and 18-55 DX Zoom. When using the pop up flash in the Portrait or Child Mode, the flash creates a shadow on the image. Zooming in or out changes the shadow but doesn't eliminate it. Rotating the hood doesn't help either. Works fine in other modes. this is a good hood, but not recomended for my camera, sure it will work otherwise for other cameras.

A bit doubtful of any lens hood

I bought this thinking it would improve some of my outdoor photos, especially those with sun glares. Perhaps I'm not using it correctly but I'm not entirely impressed with the results. The lens hood itself seems sturdy but the fit on the camera was a bit awkward. It didn't cost much to buy, which is why I only recommend to those who'd give it a try.

I've seen more efficient ones on the market. The reason I purchased this is because I needed something right away to eliminate lens flare. You have to zoom in slightly to eliminate lens flare completely with the sony ax-33 camcorder. I don't know if you have to do the same with other cameras or not though.
