I was fortunate to purchase these speakers during closeout/floor model reduction, and got an incredible deal. I purchased a pair of CM8, CM1, and CMC. These are beautifully constructed, and truly an impressive speaker set to be sure. There is no doubt, the upper sound stage is amazing, with true clarity and crispness that should be heard to be appreciated. That said, as beautiful as the construction and finish is, they do lack any sort of "distinction" or identity. They just look "normal" and blockish. The higher end models mitigate this with the tweeter on top, but this model is just left feeling "incomplete". Further, the yellow accent on the driver is very distracting. I think it would be fine for a listening room, but for a home theater, if you prefer to show off and appreciate the quality of the components, you may find yourself overly sensitive to your peripheral vision constantly catching views of the yellow. Aside from aesthetics, though, there is also the issue of depth of sound. These just don't match up to what I would have expected, and feel "hollow" on the low-mid to bass. You can almost excuse this when considering the crisp and accurate upper range, but for the money and the brand, I expected more (even at this much reduced cost I paid). Now, if you have a small little space, maybe these would suit you better. But, if you have a large listening area, and especially if using in a home theater, I would either look at the larger CM10 or look at other offerings. There are so many great options in this price point, don't settle on the brand name alone.

What fantastic speakers these are! i have them in our reading room, which is 18'x20'. I have them mated to the CM Centre 2 S2 center, and an SVS SB-2000 sub. Powered by a Marantz SR5010. Makes a great 3.1 secondary HT system with a Samsung 51" Plasma panel. I primarily use the CM8 S2's for 2.1 channel audio listening. And I am one of those who have never put the speaker grills on...not sure I even know where they are! no exposed screws on the drivers makes for a simply beautiful naked speaker-who could possibly cover them up?! I am using the bass port baffles to roll off the low end into the subwoofer. about 1 foot from the back wall. the sound signature is just wonderful. not an in your face speaker but not too relaxed either. the high end is the main event....the dome tweeter is just incredible....cymbals during jazz numbers or the soft sounds of a stringed instrument float on air. I do agree with some professional reviewers regarding the need for a high quality sub for really good low end sound. the two 5.5" drivers do a fine job, but to my ears they don't reach quite low enough. I got them in the incredible rosewood color. Simply beautiful. The price of admission is steep, But B/W quality in both sound and looks has always demanded a higher price and I don't mind paying it.

Overall the Bowers & Wilkins CM series is second to none in the sub-$2000 price range. For me, I listened to B&W, Martin Logan, Polk and others at Best Buy. Each CM model sounded better with notably more detail than the competition. The cabinet/construction is also outstanding. The design is beautiful, especially with the screens removed. The only real competition might be other CM models - the CM9 S2 and CM10 S2. If your budget can afford it, listen to all three models, The amount of bass and clarity increase as you go up the range. Overall though, most setups do not need more than the CM8.

You know how you listen to speakers in the store and hope that when you get home you get the same quality. Not taking into account that you are in a sound proof room with the right amp etc... The B&W CM8 S2's have more than exceeded that expectation. I purchased them to replace my rear channel speakers and they have turned my family room into a concert hall. Simply put they are acoustic masterpieces, thank you B&W for enhancing my home theater experience. I now have my eyes on the B&W CM10 S2 to replace the two front channel speakers.

Wanted CM10's but couldn't justify the cost. Especially since I got these as demo speakers at a discounted price. Would recommend a good sub for all listening since it can do low frequencies but not well and they are not really design to like the CM10's. But they are very clear and concise for the price so don't be afraid of these. Also had to order the floor stands, they did not come with them as demo's is what I was told??

Hooked up to a new Marantz sr7011 and sound is amazing . Also have with B&W center as well. IMO, media room sounds like a Magnolia demo room and better than theater. Very happy so far with bass and clarity from TowerS. Found a deal in sugarland store for reduced pricing as it was an older model. Still sounds great as it was broken in and abused in the demo room.

I'm a home person who loves music. I couldn't have made a better purchase for my present to myself. The speakers are awesome. Also, I might add, the sales people were extremely helpful and knowledgable AND the person from the Geek Squad was extremely knowledgable, kind, patient, clean and just a darned nice person. He was a Mother's dream.

These are by far the best speakers that I've owned. The clarity of the sound at high volumes are absolutely phenomenal. I purchased these to listen to music but when watching movies with surround sound they are also second to none.
