Clearance items are brand-new, factory-sealed products that are end of stock or discontinued by the manufacturer.

Customers return opened products for a variety of reasons — a gift was the wrong color or model, or the TV or appliance was too big to fit. Some open-box products served as in-store displays. Each open-box product was tested or inspected to verify proper working order and physical appearance, and assigned a condition — Excellent-Certified, Excellent, Satisfactory or Fair. In addition, most open-box products include all parts and accessories (exceptions are noted as part of the product's condition).

Occasionally, technology misbehaves right out of the box. Other products work as expected, but need some sprucing up (such as a new screen, battery or casing). Refurbished products are repaired and restored to a like-new state (may have minor scratches), either by one of Best Buy's in-house repair centers, the manufacturer or a third-party refurbishment company. The products are verified to work properly and include all essential parts and accessories (original or comparable substitutes).

Pre-owned products have been opened and used (some for weeks or months, others for a year or more), and were typically acquired through the Best Buy Trade-In program.


Pre-owned games were sent from Best Buy stores to a refurbishment center. All disc-based games were resurfaced to remove scratches and ensure they're in playable condition. Games may not include original packaging, artwork or manuals.

Geek Squad Certified programs involve a rigorous multipoint inspection designed to ensure the highest performance and quality standards. Each product is tested to verify it works like new and is restored to original factory settings, plus all parts are thoroughly cleaned.




Products in Satisfactory condition show minor to moderate signs of use that affect cosmetic appearance, but have no impact on performance. If the product has a screen, it is intact and fully functional, with no visible blemishes in the viewing area. (A Satisfactory product does not include dents, chips, cracks or deep scratches.) In addition, original packaging is typically not present, and nonessential parts or accessories might be missing, such as a commonly available cable or remote (identified on each individual product). Products in Satisfactory condition can be found in Best Buy stores (selection varies), where the factors mentioned above are accounted for in the savings you'll see.




Products in Fair condition operate as intended, but show more significant scratches, dents or chips — for example, an appliance returned to a Best Buy store with a dent or large scratch or a TV with a minor scuff on the screen that doesn't affect viewing quality. Original packaging is typically not included and vital accessories are commonly missing, like a TV pedestal or a proprietary cable (identified on each individual product). Products in Fair condition may be found in Best Buy stores (selection varies) so you can see them for yourself. If you can accept visible flaws, you'll also realize substantial savings.

In Store

Your local Best Buy store has a varied selection of these products in the aisles and on end caps (including open-box satisfactory and fair conditions). Signs in the store will guide you to locations in each department, where Outlet products are easily distinguished by red labels. Each open-box product includes details on the price label regarding its physical appearance, parts and accessories. Outlet Store

Best Buy Outlet stores sell clearance and open-box major appliances, TVs and computers in a retail store front. Additional products may be available, and assortment varies by outlet store location. Outlet stores are open 3 days a week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Products purchased at an outlet store are final sale and cannot be returned. Geek Squad Protection is also available.


Warehouse Sale

Best Buy Warehouse sales are held at Best Buy distribution centers and include clearance and open-box product that have been removed from Best Buy stores to create more display room. These buildings are not usually open to the public. Warehouse sales don't happen on a regular basis, are only held on weekends and typically happen only for two days. Products purchased at a warehouse sale are final and cannot be returned. Geek Squad Protection is also available.
