While I am sore over the fact that the man who created the Borgias on Showtime WANTED to take on this project, his attempts to give the show one more season failed multiple times and led to its unfortunate cancellation (though I am in agreement with so many that the show ended on a high note at such a perfect place given how the family's history unfolds afterward). I still gave this movie a shot and I was sold well on the work. It looks good, sounds good, has a nice localized story between the lady leads, and it's one to make you curious of some things. For the price, definitely worth it for those who miss classic vampires that get the right balance of betterment and subtlety to their characters.

Byzantium is definitely not an action film. Nor is it really a horror film. It's kind of a gothic epic telling the tale of two vampire sisters. The film is long and drawn-out, but ultimately I think it's a great film and definitely worth a watch if you're interesting. Saoirse Ronan knocks it out of the park, as always, and Gemma Arterton isn't too shabby either. The film is gorgeous and compelling. It's too bad it didn't do better at the box office.

I'm a sucker for higher budget vampire films and this one is a under-appreciated gem. Neil Jordan seems to have a great handle on vampires, since he also directed Interview with a Vampire. Great atmosphere, decor, acting. Amazing visuals.
