    Synopsis

    Cabin Fever
Five college buddies retreat to the woods for a little R & R and end up getting a horrific lesson in infectious disease in this low-budget shocker. Cabin Fever stars Rider Strong as the geeky Paul, who hopes to settle in around the campfire with his brash buds Jeff (Joey Kern) and Bert (James DeBello), and make the moves on the nubile-but-shy Karen (Jordan Ladd). Unfortunately, a wayward, forest-dwelling vagrant (Arie Verveen) stumbles into their lives, his skin badly desiccated by a mysterious virus. Fearing for their own lives, the quintet decide to do away with the man, with little success: He stumbles away from the campsite and into a nearby stream, where his disease quickly infects the local water supply. It isn't long before the oblivious co-eds get a taste of the man's illness, and in their desperation, each learns that he or she will stop at nothing to survive. Cabin Fever premiered at the 2002 Toronto Film Festival, where it was snapped up by Lions Gate for a fall 2003 release. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

Successful throwback to 70s and 80s horror

Cabin Fever, Eli Roth's first feature length film, is a wonderful throwback to 70s and 80s horror for us horror film buffs out there. The film is full of minute details and clever references to some of the old cult favorites (most notably Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Roth's idea of having a flesh eating virus as the antogonist is a nice stroke of originality and adds a nice twist to the usual zombie/demon/friends possessed genre. It also adds an extra layer of eerieness as it makes the horror a bit closer to reality. Beyond that unique twist though, Cabin Fever isn't 100% successful as a standalone horror movie. It becomes more of a constant nod and wink fest to old school horror fans, but never quite becomes its own film. Don't get me wrong, it's great to have a film that brings back the feel of old school horror, but Cabin Fever doesn't quite do enough to transcend its referential nature. Looking beyond the movie itself, much like the DVD for Roth's sophomore feature Hostel, the DVD presentation for Cabin Fever is killer (no pun intended...okay, maybe a little). There are some fun short films from Roth's pre-Cabin Fever years, an entertaining, if not entirely deep behind the scenes documentary, and best of all, five amazing feature length commentaries. After hearing the Hostel commentaries and now moving on to the ones for Cabin Fever, Eli Roth has now established himself as one of the best commentators around in my opinion. He is engaging, informative, and a non-stop talker. Not only that, but the quality remains consistently high across all five commentaries, with little to no overlap. For horror film fans as well as eager film students, Eli Roth's commentaries should not be missed. Cabin Fever is an enjoyable throwback to the horror films of yesteryear, and it's given awesome treatment on DVD that should not be missed.

This is Eli Roth's first full length film, and it's a success! My wife and I loved every minute of it! It's even loaded with special features, like some Rotten Fruit skits which are hilarious! This movie is a perfect mixture of intrigue, gore, and humor. I here there's a sequel coming in late 2009 or early 2010 called Spring Fever, (I'm looking forward to that.) This movie is reminiscent of the 80's gore flicks, like Dead Alive. So, if you like those movies or even newer movies, like Hostel 1 and 2, then you'll love this film. I highly recommend it. BUY IT!!!

all these years later, this gonzo little movie still more than holds up. a highly entertaining love letter to all decades of horror, cabin fever is a guaranteed hoot of a night in with friends. the directors cut blu ray looks and sounds amazing, and the deleted additions are very welcome, though don't expect extra gore. shame losing the original dvds plethora of commentaries, but i guess you can understand why. at least they recorded an anniversary commentary and ported over a few old features.

This movie has a very solid storyline with loads of blood/gore in it. I enjoyed the movie when I first watched it back when it came and out still do to this day. It has a pretty good cast in it as well as some comic relief. If you’re into horror movies and haven’t seen it you really should give this one a chance.

So glad to finally own this movie. I remember seeing it in theaters and feeling so freaked out by what happens to the cast. It also has some strange yet humorous bits that make you go "WTF?", but are pretty funny. Also the bluray quality is really nice on my 46" screen. Has lots of good featurettes as well about behind the scenes, commentary, etc.

I have been a fan of this movie since its release. The movie has all the things a teenager from the 80's expected from a horror movie. The movie is very graphic as was expected in the 80's. Eli Roth really delivers the goods with this movie.
