A: Hi Rohrbach- We are excited to hear of your interest in our restaurant-inspired GE Café™ Series! The cooktop is gray, porcelain-enamel. We do not recommend repainting ranges or cooktops with a baked on porcelain enamel surface. When exposed to heat, painting such a surface will result in cracking and peeling after a period of time, the paint will not adhere to the porcelain (Small touch-ups are fine, though). We suggest to use soap and water to clean the porcelain surface. The porcelain enamel surface should be able to withstand moderate cleaning with cleansing powders. However, since there is a wide variety of cleaning products available, we recommend following the guidelines of the manufacturers of these cleaning products. For example, some non-scratch products are approved for cleaning enamel surfaces while most steel wool pads are not recommended. If the range is hot, use a dry paper towel or cloth to wipe up any acidic spills. When the surface has cooled, wash with soapy water, rinse and polish dry.
