It's only as good as its software.

I had this printer for three days and made four calls to Canon tech support. A little background before I move forward. I spent 28 years in IT and did everything short of direct user support. My first call was because the printer would not receive print jobs and threw an 1303 error. Turns out everything was configured properly, but the printer had performed an unapproved firmware update (reboot, no harm no foul). My second and third calls went unanswered at 24 and 33 minutes, and they were to resolve the fact the printer would not wake once it went into sleep or power savings mode (never resolved but I went into eco settings and turned off power saving mode). Even after that, the unit would not print a job once after it was asleep). My fourth call today as to resolve yet another issue of not being able to print landscape on legal (or 8.5x11 for that matter). While not nearly as bad, for people doing remote printing, the included software and downloaded app are both far from intuitive. I was able to get all of the issues resolved, but not one was an easy fix, and two were buried deep in the included drivers software disk. The web app is so convoluted and quite honestly frustrating that I boxed it up and returned it. On another note, when I presented the web app to my wife she said there is no way she would use it, so that alone negated any justification for keeping it. The print quality was good to very good, or a 4-4.5 star rating. The web app is a 2-star rating. The driver's software is a 3-star rating. Not being able to remove and replace the print cartridges until Canon determines they are ready to give you access is a 1-star rating. I took it back and got the Epson Workforce WF-7710 and will review that as a standalone review. By the way, I am a 25 year HP printer 'fanboy;' generically the best printer for the job.

This is my third Canon Printer. I really like their line. I have a Pro-100 for photography and use this for everyday text and graphics. It is fast and fairly quiet. The text looks great, almost laser like. The graphics are sharp and clear, but not photographic. I got it because it works wirelessly in my home. Both my wife and I have laptops, and now send our items to be printed without having to run into the other room and plug it in. Installation was straightforward, except for the scanner. The docs all say it can scan at up to 1200 by 1200, but the software they supply seems to max out at 600 by 600. I emailed tech support, and after several exchanges was told I could ignore the pull down menu choices and just type in 1200. It worked. To bad the docs don't say that anywhere. I also like having 2 paper trays. I can now keep envelopes in one tray and regular paper in the other. If you are fitting it into a small space, be aware that the paper trays are not flush with the front of the machine. When you add paper, the trays stick out about 3 inches. I don't mind, because the output tray sticks out even further and covers the trays, but it is a little deceiving when you look at the picture on the box.

I did a lot of online research on the Canon Maxify MB2720 before I purchased because I did not want to buy another printer that I could not use. I was using another Canon Printer prior to the Maxify and I could not keep that printer connected to my home network. It worked on the initial set-up and then when I turned it off and back on again, it did not connect anymore. Now, I like Canon printers because unlike HP & Epson which I have had in the past, Canon printers has more features for what you pay for them, Canon has better Customer Support, Canon's products last longer than the others and are easier to use. In looking for a new All-in-one printer, my main concern is how well the printer would connect to my home network and how it would maintain that connection. The initial set-up of the Maxify is pretty straight forward so that was great as well as expected. The real test would be how the printer would stay connected even if the printer was turned off. In the 5 weeks that I have had the Maxify MB2720, I have turned it off almost daily and everytime I need to print from any of my family's over 15 various devices from smartphones to tablets to pc's and mac's, the Maxify would always print what it was asked to print. Currently, I have my Maxify connected to my home network via my Netgear R8000 Router which works great. The features of this Maxify are much more than I need but with a college student and 2 high school kids at home, I think that most of the features will be put to use at some point before I need to replace this MB2720. My wife was able to print some great looking pictures on some "iron-on" cloth paper to make several Quilts for my daughters school auction which turned out great. All in all I think that you can't go wrong with this MB2720 All-in-One and I highly recommend anyone, even if you don't have a Home Office, to get this great printer.

I had extreme difficulty getting this printer to connect to my network. It took approximately 3 hours for this printer to install. The Canon connector app was absolutely useless. I ended up having to manually configure the connection, then by a stroke of luck it connected. Once the printer finally connected to my network it took another 2 hours to configure the scanner so it wouldn't randomly rotate my scanned pages. This printer constantly loses connection to my network, which requires powering the printer down, then restarting and hoping it connects. I contemplated returning this unit, but after the significant time investment to install, I couldn't bring myself to box it back up and drive it to the store. The saving grace to this unit is that the print quality is superb and the print speed is by far the best I've seen. This printer also consumes very little ink, which is a big bonus. Pros: Excellent print quality Excellent scan quality Fast print Fast boot time Low Ink consumption Quite operation Large paper tray (x2) Cons: Extremely difficult setup. Useless and buggy app. Difficult Configuration apps. ADF does not support two-sided scans.

      A great all-in-one inkjet printer

This is my first Canon printer. After continued problems with HP inkjet quality and customer service, I'm really impressed with this product. It is well built, user maintainable (printheads DO wear out), has great features and produces excellent text and color chart outputs. I haven't tried it for photos yet because if I want photos it's more cost effective to have them printed professionally, especially when you consider the cost of both the paper and inks. Note: This printer uses premium PIGMENT based ink like many other fine inkjets. If you decide to try non-branded ink, be sure it's PIGMENT based and conforms to the Canon specs, or you will ensure clogging the printhead. Never mix Pigment and Dye-based inks. If you use Dye-based ink in this or similar printers designed for Pigment ink, the heat at the printhead nozzles will cause the Dye based ink to crystallize and ruin the printhead. Fortunately, this printer's printhead is user-replaceable and doesn't cost a fortune.

I primarily purchased the MB2720 to start scanning all my documents and essentially going "paperless" with my home files. This has worked very well for the low volume of scanning I have done so far, and as a bonus for me, it prints color photos with very good results as well as color documents. When I start back-scanning (scanning boxes of archived paperwork) I will let you know how efficient it is. It would be nice to have some inexpensive document management software available to scan directly from the device and have it routed to the final destination file on your computer. Presently, I have to scan to a desktop folder and then file the documents into their final destination folder one at a time...Slow, but it works very well. If anyone knows of some inexpensive "document management" software for home use, let me know. Another facet of this printer I like is, if it runs out of one color, you can still print in black. I still have not had the Printer/Copier/Scanner long enough to know the mileage from the ink, so I'm hoping it does not cost big bucks to keep printing! I highly recommend this printer for the home office or a small office with a few people. It appears to be well built and easy to operate!

I bought this a while ago but only used it lightly. I usually turned it on when I need printing and turned it off after that. Here is my complain: 1. Sometimes when I turned it on to print a few pages, it took 5 min before it prints the first page. I do not know what it was doing but it was making noise, and maybe it was cleaning the printer head. I saw the screen displaying cleaning printer head once when it made similar noise but that was not right after it was turned on. 2. The ink that shipped with the printer was consumed very quickly (in terms of number of pages as I did not print a lot). My estimation is that I printed about < 30 color pages and < 100 black and white. Last time when I turned off the printer, it stil showed the color cartridge still had ink, and today when I turned it on, during the 5 min noise as I described above, it said two of them were empty, and after the 5 min noisy activity before I print, it said the other color cartridge was empty. Was that noise activity (cleaning the printer head?) drinking the ink?

I don't know if I just keep getting "bad" printers but this, like the Canon printer it replaced, were/are worthless pieces of junk!!!! It took over 5 count them "5" hours on the phone and allowing direct access with Canon's tech support to get it set up to work with my laptop and even then I ended up having to use a cable to connect it to the laptop ... even Canon's tech support could not get it set up for wireless use. After finely getting it set up by connecting it by cable I've only been able to actually print with it 4 times and it took forever for it to print. It takes a very long time to respond to any prompts and when it did it took almost one minuet per page to print. It even takes 2 or 3 minuets to turn it off. I unplugged it from the laptop because I needed to use the computer at another location .... and connecting it back up to the computer and trying to get it to print something all I get is a window saying it's not connected to wi-fi. Well DUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHH ..... it's wired directly to the computer!!!! I absolutely love my Canon cameras but will never .... ever spend another cent on anything related to "Canon Printers"!!!!
