Cooktop without Downdraft Installation (Licensed Professional)

Q: I bought a stovetop and Best Buy is going to install and deliver it. If the clearance requires and additional .5 inches to be removed for the unit to fit, is the installer able to cut the granite countertop?

A: The installer was able to cut my granite but they charge their own fee. It was $125 extra to cut the granite. I had a complete kitchen install and for each item that needed modification there were separate charges.

Q: Hello I am trying to replace GE 36" gas cooktop model, JGP636BEV3BB with 36' kitchen aid gas cooktop. I am not sure about the existing cut out dimensions. If needed will the installer modify it to fit the new one? Thanks.

A: Hi DG, I am just seeing this so I may be too late to be of help. I did not go with Kitchen aid for my stovetop. The professional installer told me that switching one GE model for another GE model "almost always" fits the same cutout so fortunately mine was an easy installation but if you can contact the Best Buy installers they are should be able to advise you. Q: Have a gas pipe outlet with a cap under existing electric cooktop. Does installation of gas cooktop include the connection that goes on the pipe after the cap is removed? Does installation include relighting pilots on gas furnaces and water heater?

A: Deano, I got best buy free install deal as i upgraded all appliances. In installation, they install new pipes and do not use old ones. Cooktop comes with new pipe

A: They take away the old cooktop for free.

Q: Will Best Buy installers install an elec cooktop purchased from another store?

A: Ya know, they might. Because - nothin' is free and I'm sure they still make money on the installation. I'd surely check. Those guys were great .. they installed my cook top and my wife's parents cook tops ..

Q: If they need to remove 1/2 inch of granite for this to fit, will the installer be able to do that?

A: The installer did have to cut my granite. It was an additional $125. I had a complete kitchen install and for each appliance that needed modification to fit, there was a separate charge. The fees vary by installer. I had to replace my cooktop a second time and they had to build up the inside with wood, the 2nd installer did not charge me for that.

Q: I’m replacing a gas cook top with an induction cooktop. An electrician will run a new dedicated 220v, 40 amp circuit to a junction box. Will the installers connect the cooktop to the junction box or do I need to have an electrician do it?
