Hopefully, this film gets a more respectable HD release in the next few years. This DVD is entirely enjoyable, but I've been spoiled with remastered versions of classic films and this one deserves it! Plus, the featurettes that could be included could be really interesting. Regardless, while this is the only version of this film available, it is worth getting a copy if you're already thinking about it. Especially for blues nerds—they nail the music and the performances are believable.

Fantastic movie with great music. I love this movie. The scenario: a classical guitar prodigy, in Julliard school, loves the blues more than classical music. He rebels against his classical training and throw some blues into a piece he plays for the teacher, naughty naughty. He heads out to find a famous blues player who is hiding out in a nursing home. Getting a job at the nursing home enables him to talk to the old blues man. The old man had mad a deal with the devil when he was young: his soul for fame. The old man felt his deal with the devil was not fair. The old man cons the classical musician into helping him escape from the nursing home and going south to experience the life of a blues singer. On the road with no money the two have some interesting experiences trying to find the location where the deal with the devil happened. A musical show down with the devils music man ensues with the old blues mans soul on the line. Fantastic music, good flow with no boredom, a movie you can watch many times.
