An Investigative Procedural Exception
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Director Todd Haynes has crafted a pure legal thriller that excels in every sense of the genre. While rather straightforward on the surface, Haynes utilizes this sly tactic of maintaining a low key tone and subdued visual aesthetic that, as the film builds, the power of what is unfolding sneaks up on you making the gut punch of the truth to power moments genuinely effective. Ruffalo matches Haynes beat for beat in his performance as environmental attorney Robert Bilott with the power of his performance not coming into full effect until the credits begin to roll and we realize there is no happy ending here; that the difference between justice and compensation has become a line so blurred that a company has been able to buy there way out of and continue producing and making a profit from a chemical now found in every human on the planet. A disease-causing chemical that cannot be extracted from your blood, I might add. Dark Waters is not only compelling and exquisitely crafted, but is terrifying as hell. A true wake-up call to a nation that has subscribed to the fact everything they consume probably causes cancer in one way or another. It's a shame this will get overlooked come awards season and not because it deserves the prestige (though it does), but because it won't be afforded the publicity that would garner more interest from the average movie-goer. It's a shame more people won't see this because I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I did.

What's in your water???
|Posted .Owned for 11 months when reviewed. What can I say....I deal with PFOS/PFOA for a living working for the Air Force, so this movie was great to me...as are all environmental movies over the years (Civil Action, Erin Brokovich). Folks....put filters on your drinking water....be extra safe.

online movie orders
|Posted .HUGE JOKE--only way to get a negative review out there is to give it 5 stars--placed an online order 10 days ago--said it would arrive in a week then there there was no information. Order was stuck in the system. I called 10 days later to see what happened they told me they would reship it- but it would take 5 weeks to get here. I suggest ordering elsewhere if you need it immediately.

Important story!
|Posted .Owned for 8 months when reviewed.A true docu derma movie explaining an important topic that affects all of us. The drama is here but some of the important facts are left out. See the "devil we know" for a documentary of this same story. And read the news papers to see how this is all playing out on a daily basis.

Entertaining True Story!!
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This film has some actors that I simply have to watch perform. I don't care what film they are in, they are in a class of their own and I watch their work. Mark Ruffalo is one of those actors. He is a transformative actor. He can become ANYONE and I forget immediately that he is Mark Ruffalo and I believe he is the other person on screen. This is a very well done film and his performance is stellar. Tim Robbins has a very good role and does well at it. Haven't seen him do a good film since "Shawshank". Anne Hathaway is always fun to watch and Bill Pullman's character is a different turn for him. For me it was definitely worth watching, but once I knew the ending I didn't feel I needed to own it. I wouldn't repeat view this film. It isn't one of those films to me. Make up your own mind. The point is: SEE IT.

Terrifyingly relevant
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.PFOA, PFAS, etc are forever chemicals (used to make teflon, fabric stain protector, fire retardant) that do not breakdown in the environment or in people. These man-made chemicals are present in 99% of people today. They cause cancer and birth defects in people and animals. This movie depicts the true story of a WV dairy farmer and the lawyer who sued DuPont Chemical for their willful dumping of known carcinogens and attempted coverup in Parkersburg, WV. A real eye opener on environmental law.

An Unsung Gem of 2019
|Posted .If you’re a fan of movies based on true stories, this is a must-see. With outstanding performances from Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robbins, as well as the rest of the cast, this movie really stands out as a great film. If you’re familiar with the story, the film does a good job at balancing the real world events with tense character drama in everything from the actual case being built but also the family drama. I would definitely recommend picking this film up and adding to your collection.

Q: Questionis this movie based on real events?
Asked by Bobby.
- A:Answer YES.....Most of the major chemical manufacture's made fluorinated compounds in the past....as they are used in just about everything....Scotch Guard is PFOS, and Teflon is PFOA. I work with these chemicals from a cleanup standpoint.....extremely low Life Time Health Advisory limit of 70 parts per trillion. That is 1 drop in 1,000 Olympic size swimming pools. You should google PFOS PFOA and EPA.
