    Features

    Patented Forward-Focused Bipolar Array

Offers the ultimate balance between room-filling sound and a precise center image, while giving you total placement flexibility.

Integrated 12" Powered Subwoofer and Dual Bass Radiators

Integrated powered subwoofer matched with its respective bass radiator offer deeper, more impactful bass from the tower speaker without the need to add a separate subwoofer.

    Intelligent Bass Control™

Gives you the ability to modulate deep bass up or down in level while simultaneously maintaining mid-range tonal balance.

Dolby Atmos Certified & DTS:X Compatible

Integrated seamless two-way height speaker module within the top of the BP9080x allows you to hear and feel multi-dimensional sound.

    Aluminum Dome Tweeters

Tweeters play higher in frequency than what is heard by the human ear, creating an authentic reproduction of sound as the artist intends in the studio or concert hall.

    Balanced Double Surround System

Improves driver excursion which results in the selected driver producing bass output usually associated with a larger driver while retaining the improved dispersion and midrange definition of a smaller driver.

    Acoustically Transparent Grille

Enjoy the subtle elegance of the speaker design without having to remove a speaker grille to enjoy natural, uncolored sound.

    Totally Inert, Resonance-Free Cabinet

Maximum rigidity with strategically placed bracing improves imaging while reducing resonance, further reinforcing our clean and powerful sound.

Cast Aluminum Base with Spikes and Floor Glides

The wide footprint increases overall stability of the tower speaker, while the addition of spikes or floor glides help keep your speakers firmly in place.

    Minimalist Design

Powerful minimalist aesthetic with precision-machined components creates a sophisticated look to complement the most distinguished home theater. The sharp lines of the BP9000 Series also echo its precise sonic signature.

    LED Backlit Definitive Technology Logo

To highlight the integrated powered subwoofer and show that your speaker is receiving a signal, we’ve added an LED logo at its bottom front panel.

Def Tech BP 9080x - Great!

      Posted
      DaddyMac

I purchased these speakers to replace a set of Def Tech 8060 towers I have had for 2 years. I am using these speakers in a 9.2 ch set up paired with a Denon 6400h. I use this set up for home theater and music. So why upgrade from the 8060s? These speakers were on sale so I made the decision to upgrade so that I could add Dolby Atmos to my home theater set up for programs offering the platform. These speakers are huge, they are about 30% larger than the 8060s and I thought those were large! The installation and set up took about an hour but once I got my Audyssey dialed in I started to sample the speakers. My entire speaker set up is now all from the 9000 series, 9080 CS, 9080 surrounds and 9040 rears. I watched Avatar on DirecTV and I could not believe how much better the system sounded. I tried some Netflix content (Altered Carbon, Lost in Space) and same thing. I then switched to YouTube and watched some 4k programs and they were outstanding as well. The main difference I believe is the tighter bass and true Atmos capability of the 9080s. I have the sub-woofers dialed down and my media room still shakes when there are explosions or other special effects. The frequency gets low and does not become distorted. Once these break in I will dial up the volume and see if I can replicate being at movies! I would highly recommend these speakers. They are expensive so wait for a sale and they are large so make sure your space can handle them.

      Who needs 7.2 channels?

      Posted

This is my first home theater. I researched myself dizzy, and then headed into Magnolia to listen. I went thinking I'd be happy with Klipsch, only to discover that Klipsch wasn't even included in the Magnolia universe anymore. So, since the customer is always right, I had them bring in some Klipsch towers with the upward-firing channels built in from the Best Buy general population. The Magnolia guys suggested I sample Definitive Technology and B&W for comparison. I opted for a pair of the Definitive Technology 9080st's (steeply discounted in August) and Pioneer Elite SC-LX502 7.2-channel receiver (I chose this because it's fully-funtional, discontinued, and half price). These towers are ridiculous. Each has a front channel and a hight (upward) channel, plus a 455W internally-amplified subwoofer. So the pair provides a 4.2 channel HT system, with nearly 1000W of sub. If you need more sub, then there's something seriously wrong with you. I figure I'll add more channels if I ever feel like I need them, but so far I need nothing more in order to feel absolutely giddy about my HT!

These speakers are amazing! I have owned them for 6 months now and they keep on impressing me. When I tried them out in the store I really wasn't too impressed with them, they sounded ok but not remarkable.I think they were crossed over in the receiver and didn't deliver the bass I was hoping for but I purchased them anyways with a 9080 center channel knowing I could return if they disappointed me at home. Once I got them setup in my media room I was blown away by the bass that these things produce! I have them set at just under 1/2 of the bass control knob and they fill my large room with chest pounding rock solid bass. Throw in a UHD movie like the battle scene from "Hacksaw Ridge" and be prepared to glue down anything that's not permanently affixed in your house! It's not just the bass that makes these speakers sound awesome, they also produce a beautifully neutral upper end too that does not fatigue your ears at high volumes. There is really nothing not to love about these speakers. If you're thinking about giving them a try, I highly recommend doing so and be sure to try them in your own room, you wont be disappointed!

Did all my research, spent 10s of hrs looking for speakers, both in magnolia and a premium audio store local (too expensive). Absolutely love these speakers. the built in subs and dbbs are incredible. loved these over the MartinLogan (because it had too much of a sweet spot). and didn't go with b&w top of the line because I don't sit around and just listen to music, more of a tv and movie guy. don't get me wrong, sounds great for music. amazing customer service. easy setup. no need for subwoofer cables but you do want to give these babies enough power. Im doing with a pioneer 502, but if youre not looking to spend 3 grand (like I wasn't) then definitely go with a d3 amplifier. don't buy for the built in atmos speakers, they're garbage. would prefer a biamp ability over atmos, but sooo much better than the 9060s.

      Incredible Speakers

Bought these towers after hearing them at Magnolia, totally amazing sound. I paired these with my Yamaha RX-A-3070 which is a high end receiver. 160 watts per channel. I actually want to hear them louder but my receiver won't give enough power to these 455 watt rms giants, so I have to buy a 3000.00 ROTEL 700 watt 2 channel amp, that will give me 350 a speaker, and then we will be talking. Can't wait.

Got these to replace some old Yamaha speakers (NX-A200XT). These sound like night and day between them. I knew my old Yamaha were okay but these new speakers sound great. I have not been able to try the attached Atmos speakers as Atmos but they are connected to front presence and sound good. I listened to several speakers in a Magnolia store before purchasing these and do not regret my decision.

These speakers are great...worth every penny! The highs are high and the bass marries perfectly with my existing sub-woofer. My only problem is that now I find myself staying up too late watching more TV and movies because experiencing them now is so much better! One of my best purchases ever! I'm looking at adding more pieces to my theater surround sound system.
