Q: What material is the outside of the laptop? Is is metal or a plastic type material?
A: The outside is a plasticy type of material. The metal is only on the inside beside the keyboard
Q: Can the memory be upgraded to 16 GB?
A: There is only one slot and the max configuration is 8GB. A better option to increase performance would be to get a solid state drive. See the pdf manual on the Dell website for complete specs.
Q: Can anyone recommend a properly fitted case/bag for this?
A: A 15.6" sleeve works well for this, as it is that size.
Q: How long does the battery last for using this laptop?
A: I use this laptop usually at near full brightness, always connected to WiFi, with Onenote, and sometimes Adobe Illustrator up, about for 5 hours a day with about 5 hours of sitting in my backpack and it lasts that long. Excellent with battery in my opinion. Mine is about a month old.
Q: can this be upgraded to windows 10 for free?
A: Yes absolutely. I upgraded to Windows 10 on mine for free right out of the box. Windows 10 is available for free through June or July 2016
