Packs a punch
I recently upgraded my home theater. I was attracted to this unit because of the sound quality and features provided at a good price. Of the other units I looked at in this price range, others had more features or connections, but the Denon had by far the best sound quality.
I paired the Denon with an Energy 5.1 speaker configuration. The speaker configuration was tedious, but yielded excellent results. Movies sound awesome, and the system handles music and games very well, too. Higher sounds are crisp and clear, the bass rumbles. I have the unit in a room that's around 25'x15' with a vaulted ceiling, and the sound fills the room.
The preset-EQ settings manage the sound well. My main complaint on the system is it is somewhat cumbersome to switch between a music and theater configuration, though the 3 Quickset buttons let you acces your most commonly used configurations quickly. Other cool features include an EQ feature that adjusts based on the time of day you're listening (e.g. a midnight setting that trims out the loudest sounds if you're trying not to wake up everyone in the house).
I have an HDTV, Blu-Ray, and Wii attached to the Denon, and the 4 HDMI inputs are more than enough. The 1080 upconvert is nice, but it did require me to upgrade to component cables for the Wii since the upconvert actually degraded the picture on the composite cable.

even better than I thought !!
before I actually decided to purchase this, I did alot of background study, owned an onkyo tx-sr606 just before this one, from the moment I plugged it in I could tell a difference, way better sound, easier to set up, the audyessey speaker calibration made it sound even better, the manual is very user friendly, very, very easy to set up, took me all of 15 minutes.

Denon really does it right
I have owned many receivers over many decades and the DVR-1911 may be the best sound, out of the box receiver I have ever heard. My old Harmon Kardin died and I first purchased the Denon AVR-391, but it did not do everything that I wanted to do so I returned it to BestBuy and swapped it for the 1911. The sound from the 391 is what convinced me to stay with the Denon brand and the 1911 sound is absolutely wonderful. Of course how things sound are quite subjective, but this reciever cost half of what I paid for my last two fairly high end Harmin and also Yamaha receivers and I could not be more pleased with the sound. The real proof is that my wife no longer ask me to "turn that down" and I'm listening to it louder that ever! I am using it with my existing Boston Acoustic speakers all around and will be quite pleased for years to come. Set up of the more advanced functions requires reading and re-reading Denon's less that stellar instruction manual, but that's more a result of impatience that anything.
