Synopsis

Enjoy the thrills of Fallout 3 along with five game add-on packs with this Game of the Year Edition. In the 200 years since the global atomic war of 2077, the surviving residents of the Capital Wasteland (formerly known as Washington, D.C.) have holed up in Vault 101, enjoying a life free from the dangers beyond. In the Vault, you are protected from the Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers and Super Mutants that prowl the Capital Wasteland. But now your father has defied the Overseer and left the Vault for reasons you don't know. You must find him and discover the truth before it is too late.

Fallout 3 immerses you in an environment where the great monuments of the United States lie in ruin and danger lurks around every corner, and this special Game of the Year Edition brings the post-nuclear world even more vividly to life with the addition of all five game add-on packs. Super-deluxe HD graphics render the Wasteland in eye-popping detail, from the danger-filled offices and Metro tunnels of D.C. to the rotten flesh of a mutant's face. Choose from dozens of unique skills and perks to customize your character. Experience the post-apocalyptic world from either a 1st-person or 3rd-person perspective with the touch of a button. Inflict death and destruction through the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, which allows you to pause time in combat, aim for specific body parts on your target and queue up attacks. In Fallout 3, you make the decisions that define you and that change the world. Continue the adventure in the five included add-on packs, including Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta.

THE BAD: So I just got this game four days ago and I knew there were glitches and freezes but it happens more than I expected so save your game frequently. Day one: played it for 9 hours and after about seven, it froze up while in a firefight and had to shut off PS3 the hard way. Day two: played for 6 hours and my V.A.T.S. glitched and got stuck but I could shut down game normally. Day three: 2 hours and no problems. Day four: played for 5 hours and while rushing a mutant, the game completely shut down and went back to the PS3 XMB. Also it's unrealistic, like you can shoot someone with 3 shots to the head and they might still be alive and kicking, but it's an RPG so if you can look past that it's actually a plus. The menu you use frequently could be a bit easier to navigate but it's not bad THE GOOD: I haven't liked RPGs since FF3 until now. This game is very fun. I love the way the mutants look and there's giant scorpions and stuff. You are in a wasteland which is the remains of Washington D.C. after a nuclear war. sometimes ammo is scarce. There are so many ways you can apply points so that you end up being skilled in different areas(like the way I've applied my points so far, I'm good with small guns, lockpicking and hacking computer terminals) and they also have these things called perks so each time you level up you get to pick one, for instance, I picked this one where sometiimes when you shoot enemies they explode when they die, but it also increases firepower by a bit. There's so much to this game, that I could never fully explain it to you. I'm sure there are still probably at least 50 hours of gameplay(I've heard you can do it in less time if you skip the nonessential quests). I'm sure I'll play it through once more after I beat it but create a completely different character with different skills just to see what it's like. I'm very picky and if it wasn't for the glitches, I would give this game a 9.7 out of 10 AND IT"S GORY!!!! So just buy it already.

Incredible game but avoid until they get a patch

This is one of the greatest games of all time! It is the perfect combination of RPG and first person shooter that will keep you engaged with a great story line and character development while delivering most of the action you'd expect from a FPS. The problem is the DLC and GOTY releases for PS3 are seriously flawed. I could not finish the game because it got so annoying. Every few minutes frame rates would slow to crawl, the game would stutter and stop for seconds on end and several times an hour you have to reboot the PS3 because it would freeze completely. This is NOT good to do to your PS3!!! It can burnout in short order if you ahve to keep switching it off and on like this. The worst of it, unfortunately, is Bethesda Softworks has not acknowledged the problem publically over a month after release, despite the fact that all the forums, including their own forum are rife with irate customers who bought this but now find it either unplayable or at least painful to play. The probems seem to get worse as your player advances. I have to give 1 star because no matter how good a game is, it needs to be playable and enjoyable. Further, the manufacturer has yet to own up to this problem. Recommend waiting to see if and when a patch will be made available. Buyer beware, this is broken software!

Fallout 3 ranks among my top 5 games of all time. To give you an idea of the impact this game has had on me, I purchased this PS3 GOTY copy even though I have the original game and all the individual dlc for the XB360. This package (GOTY) includes the main game plus all the expansion packs, including the increased level cap. If you like exploring, this is your game! This is by far the greatest value you'll ever find in gaming; between the massive map, gazillions of quests, and personalization options (karma, gender, combat style) you'll spend 100's(and I mean 100's) of hours exploring the Capital Wasteland. Unlike FO New Vegas you can continue playing the game after you've completed the main quest. Point Lookout is my favorite dlc. And I love the radio - it's even sparked my interest in early 50's music. My cons: It starts off very slow. You spend the first portion of the game growing up in the vault. Once you leave the vault the game really begins. So if you get bored at first - hang in there, you'll be rewarded for your patience. Also, be prepared to invest large amounts of time playing this game. And it glitches - you'll occasionally have to power down your console because the game locks up. Not as bad as New Vegas, but still annoying. Make sure you save your progress frequently.

Fallout 3 has been out for a while, but this wraps Fallout 3 and the 5 expansion modules in to one attractively priced package. The game is engaging, but the player will need to invest a bit of time in it up front before it catches hold of you. I played the game for several sessions before I reached my "break-through" point. Now I can't wait to get some more time to play. Warning note for parents: The game does have foul language, and the violence is often and graphic. My only dislike with the game is the buggy behavior. My son and I have had it freeze up often, sometimes forcing us to go back to a previous save file to continue. It also will pause during gameplay, almost as if there is too much going on for the console to keep up. I've also run into a couple of gaffs where I've found myself in the middle of a quest without having gone through all of the steps necessary to start the quest! Overall, however, this has been a very enjoyable game. In a time where many games can be finished in a few hours, making you regret buying them, this game is well worth the current price!

    Great Game w/ some issues

I bought this game purely on a recommendation from a friend and would do so again in a heartbeat. Hours of entertainment. Fallout 3 provides you with the ability to follow a specific quest path or take a break and just go explore a broad and exciting world. This game is unique in that items and other effects never disappear. However, with that ongoing tally of information it seems that the more you play this game the more it causes the PS3 to crash/freeze. You can avoid a lot of headaches by saving often.

Bethedsa developed a wonderful gem in this game. Skyrim was played before this one so the play mechanics were well known prior to loading and with the recent release of Fallout 4 it was worth exploring. Excellent character development and interaction as well as experiencing how your actions led to consequences later in the game. You are called to explore a new area to find those ever elusive Bobblleheads to strengthen your 'good' or 'evil' character further. Highly recommended to lose yourself for a weekend.

I purchased Fallout 3 for Xbox 360 on launch day. Eventually I purchased the GOTY edition for PC and enjoyed the community mods. Now I've purchased the PS3 version and I have to say, Fallout 3 is one amazing game. Bethesda is one of my favorite game companies. They sure pulled through with these games. One word of advice for PS3 owners, uncheck the auto-save boxes for "rest" and "travel." It reduces the chances of glitching by a long shot. Game-on!

Great Game, but PS3 version has problems!

I played the XBOX version last year and was waiting for the Game of the Year Edition for all of the downloadable content. Received a new PS3 for Christmas, so got the PS3 Game of the Year Ed. It can be slow at times and freezes regularly. Sometimes it starts working again after a few minutes. Usually, I have to shut down the PS3 main power and restart thus losing all unsaved data. So save frequently. Even with all of the problems, it is still worth it.
