G3 Live In Concert: Satriani, Johnson and Vai [DVD] [1996]

A summit meeting of three of rock's most gifted guitarists, G3 Live in Concert: Satriani, Johnson and Vai features Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai showing off their considerable chops on-stage. The DVD version of this video has been transferred at full-frame (as originally intended), and the audio has been mastered in two formats: Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM Stereo. The disc features no special features beyond brief bios on the three musicians, but the enhanced image and sound quality of the DVD format, as well as the convenience of being able to quickly access individual performances, certainly make this an improvement over the previous VHS release of this material.

Synopsis

G3 Live in Concert: Satriani, Johnson and Vai
Many rock guitar aficionados cite Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai as among the most gifted fret-handlers on Earth, and their fans got a triple treat in 1996 when these three players joined forces to tour under the moniker G3. This live concert video (recorded November 2, 1996, at Minneapolis' Northrop Auditorium) features stellar performances from each of the individual musicians, as well as a grand finale where they join forces for a trio of supercharged covers -- Freddie King's "Going Down," Frank Zappa's "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama," and Jimi Hendrix's "Red House." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
