Q: Can use my garmin smart watch in saltwater?
A: Sure, I've had mine in saltwater without issue, it's good to 164 foot. I rinse it off with fresh water after it's been in salt water same as I do all my gear after exposure.
Q: Does it measure heart rate from the wrist band or does it require you wear a chest strap?
A: You have to wear a chest strap (bluetooth based). If it's any consulation, strap based HR tend to be more accurate than LED based HR sensors, but definitely not as comfortable or convenient.
Q: How does it react when wet? as far as the "touch" functions?
A: The Vívoactive is a quite impressive device. I jump in the pool, I get acquainted to the water, then I set up my training and start. Numerous checks during the session, using the back-light button, and never an issue. Basically, the wetness is not an issue with the vívoactive...
Q: How long does the battery lasts before it needs to be replaced?
A: The vívoactive uses a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. You're correct, it's difficult to predict the lifetime of a rechargeable battery, as this can be affected by so many factors. Rechargeable Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries will naturally lose some capacity over time, due to charge/discharge cycling. All batteries in devices made by Garmin utilizing Li-ion batteries will share this characteristic. Under normal operating conditions, the batteries in these devices should have approximately 80% of their original capacity after a few years of frequent charge/discharge cycles. There are several factors that can accelerate the normal degradation of battery capacity including: * Exposure to high temperatures * Leaving the battery completely charged or discharged for long periods of time (anything longer than two weeks.) When storing the device long-term, it is recommended to partially charge the device (approximately 30 to 50%) and keep it in a cool, dry place. Some devices may require a full charge and discharge cycle before an accurate measure of battery capacity can be made. The vívoactive battery is not user replaceable. If a new battery is needed, it can be replaced by utilizing the Garmin RMA process or contacting your local Garmin support office at www.garmin.com/support. I hope this helps. Thank you! *CG
