Q: Wat does frost guard feature on this refridgerator mean
A: Hi Pam- We are excited to hear of your interest in our GE Refrigerators! Frost Guard or Adaptive Defrost means that the refrigerator will only defrost as needed. It accounts for door openings and usage to determine when it is necessary to defrost and how long the defrost cycle needs to run. If the refrigerator is not being frequently used (ex. family on vacation), it will not defrost as often. It also utilizes a "Pre-Chill" function to lower the freezer temperature prior to the defrost cycle. This lowering of freezer temperature allows the freezer to return to its set temperature point more quickly once the defrost cycle is complete. All this amounts to less thawing of foods and refreezing during the defrost cycle. The result is that it reduces freezer burn. Q: Is the back of this refrig. completely enclosed or are there any exposed coils on back?
A: Hi Katie, thanks for reaching out! This model has what is called a NeverClean Condenser. On refrigerators, air is "forced" across the condenser coils by a condenser fan to aid in removal of the heat being pulled from the refrigerator during the cooling process. This movement of air collects dust and household debris. Dirty condenser coils reduce the refrigerator's ability to maintain optimal temperatures or operate at maximum energy efficiency. Newer automatic defrost refrigerators have a NeverClean Condenser that does not require cleaning or maintenance. - The condenser coils are located in the compressor housing instead of on the back, keeping them clean and functioning optimally. This design allows for more efficient airflow. The coils will not require cleaning under normal condition since they are encased. - While it is not necessary for the performance of the refrigerator, if you want to clean dust, pet hair, etc. off the floor beneath the refrigerator, an appliance brush or vacuum with a hose attachment can be used. The rear of this unit will be enclosed. We hope that this information helps! Stay safe. -Michael
