This is a review for the microwave as installed UNDER COUNTER.
Screws go through cabinet directly into four threaded mounting holes on top of microwave. No hanging kit or brackets used.
Purchased from Bestbuy Sept 2019. Replaced 16 year old Spacemaker II.
-Microwave 24-Inch width almost fits 24" under-counter width.
-Unit is easy to use and seems to do well with 800 watts
-Oven is not unattractive but for price I would expect less cheap looking stainless appointments.
-Was able to use previous oven's 10-32 screws for direct mounting.
-Need to leave a 3/16-inch gap on left side because corner of door will gouge finished cabinetry. Oven then protrudes 3/16" on right side. See photos
- No mounting template provided. This is wrong.
- Four top mounting threaded holes do not align with older unit holes. Hole locations are in AU measurement system (Arbitrary Units). Please GE - just use English or Metric units and integral values.
- One or more holes in your cabinet will be close but not close enough requiring a dowel to fill the old hole(s).
- Transferring hole locations to cabinet is very difficult. I made a cardboard template the size of the oven. Made many repeat measurements and transferred drill locations to template. Then stuck very small drills through template to confirm engaged top of oven. Then mounted template to cabinet underside with staples and drilled through the four tiny drill holes. Started small then worked up to 1/4" final hole size.
-This took better part on a whole day to install. To install 4 ding dang screws.
I purchased model #PEM31SF2SS to replace the old model PEM31SM3SS. The new model is very cheaply made in comparison. When you shut the door it sounds like a tin can and the numbers are so small and hard to read.
Hello Cincerely - thank you for providing a review of your microwave. We're sorry to hear your new model is loud when the door is closing. The difference in the door noise is due to a firmer spring in the door latch; this is a normal condition for the microwave. We appreciate your feedback and appreciate you choosing GE Appliances! Small, GE built-in microwave
Good: very quiet operation, okay for re-heating food, nice looking.
Bad: expensive for what you get, under powered (cannot even cook popcorn)
Our old built in microwave, a GE Profile model developed problems with the soft touch buttons and needed replacement. Because of size requirements to fit in the same space and the overall reliability of the old unit we bought this GE model as it is the replacement for our old unit. This model is very slightly wider so it fit a little more snugly and it was a little taller requiring the cabinet to be modified.
It looks great installed and works very well. It is quieter than our former unit and the soft touch buttons are a little stiffer to push. The turntable is slightly smaller as well but that has not been an issue. The only complaint I may offer is the control panel is not back lit and is hard to see when the room is a little dark. Beyond that we have no other complaints and have been happy with this purchase.
Good microwave generally, although as everyone knows it's very expensive since it's the only one that fits in that sized space. Our most recent lasted 4.5 years. I bought a new one that had a clicking/grinding sound in the turntable, but I returned it and the replacement is good. Replacement at Best Buy was easy.
after going back and forth with the phone ordering guy who would not do a price match and insisted i could not mount this under the cabinet i told him my local appliance guy whos been selling longer then he s been born says its the only model that you can under mount thats why they sell a mounting kit ... so i went to local best buy who was more than happy to price match received it today and lo and behold there are four plastic plugs on the top with screw holes underneath fit right into the same spot as my old ge proflie which lasted 18years
A:Answer*** UPDATE ***
This is what the install looks like using the trim kit for the GE JE1860SB and the LG LMC2075ST microwave. Overall the fit is good. The one slight imperfection is that the LG microwave sticks out about 1/2" farther that the GE unit did, and hence is no longer perfectly flush. This could perhaps be remedied if was willing to modify the trim kit but this solution was good enough for me. As mentioned in a previous post, I did have to shim the left side (between the microwave and the trim kit stand) about 1/4".
A:AnswerHi DB25- The latest model is GE Profile™ Series 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave Oven
PEM31SFSS. It is compatible with GE® Optional 27" Built-In Trim Kit JX827SFSS and Optional 30" Built-In Trim Kit JX830SFSS. We suggest to view the Quick Specs for details including cutout dimensions: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=PEM31SF_EF_BM_FM_R2_17.pdf - Trim Kits are not interchangeable. A trim kit consists of the trim frame, as well as an upper, lower, and rear duct that attaches to and encases the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out. It is important to only use the trim kit designed for that model. Thanks for being part of our GE Appliances Family! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHi Charlie- We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Yes, all 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. Check out our GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175SKSS. A:AnswerHello adny - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The replacement microwave to the JEM31SF01 is the PEM31SFSS. However, if you are going to build it into a cabinet, then the JX827SFSS 27" trim kit or the JX830SFSS 30" trim kit are required. The cutout dimensions for these trim kits are: 15" +/- 1/8" high x 24-7/8" +/- 1/8" wide. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

A:AnswerHi WA- Thanks for choosing GE! We certainly appreciate your loyalty. Trim kits are not interchangeable. A trim kit consists of the trim frame, as well as an upper, lower, and rear duct that attaches to and encases the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out. It is important to only use the trim kit designed for that model. GE Profile™ Series PEM31SFSS is the comparable model and compatible with GE® Optional 27" Built-In Trim Kit JX827SFSS and Optional 30" Built-In Trim Kit
JX830SFSS. We encourage you to view the Quick Specs for dimensions: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=PEM31SF_EF_BM_FM_R2_17.pdf - Thanks for checking with us! SUEatGEA
A:AnswerHi -Thanks for your loyalty! When replacing a 36" over-the-range microwave (JVM3670SF001), many current 30" over-the-range microwaves offer an optional 36" filler kit (sold separately) to allow it to be installed in a 36" cut-out opening. We suggest GE Profile™ Series 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven PVM9215SKSS. This model is compatible with Optional 36" Side Filler Panel Kit JX36DSS (sold separately). We know you have choices and appreciate the trust you've placed in us! Enjoy - Sue
A:AnswerWe just replaced a GE Profile JEM31 with a GE Profile PEM31. The installer didn't think it would fit and just left the unit and trim kit w/ us and said 'good luck'. However, in our case the replacement unit and trim kit fits the cabinet nicely. We used the new hardware to create rails for the PEM31 and attached the rail guides to the microwave. Easy. The chrome-looking high-quality plastic trim front actually gets screwed into the wood cabinetry around the opening for the microwave. In other words the new unit sticks out further than the JEM31 did but in our case that's also no problem. I've never installed a microwave before but this just took a few minutes. Screws were included and the directions were clear. Attaching are photos of the finished product. Good luck!
