This 1974 Godzilla is certainly the best of the decade. An Okinowan prophet sees that a giant monster will attack the world. Her prophecy comes true when a monster, Godzilla, suddenly attcks the country. But Godzilla seems strange; his voice is hiss-like and attempts to kill the monster Anguirus, usually an alllie of Godzilla's. Things go full circle when the real Godzilla duels the imposter at an oil refinery. The imposter reveals itself as a mechanical doppelganger that sends Godzilla sprawling, seemingly deafeated. Meanwhile, humans discover an alien base that controls the evil Mechagodzilla. The aliens soon send the robot to destroy the only threat after Godzilla-the Okninawan lion-dragon King Seesar. King Seesar gets his furry butt handed to him but is saved in the nick of time when Godzilla shows up for one last showdown... "Gojira tai Mekagojira" is definatly one of the best entries in the whole famous series. It has a different kind of storyline, filled with fine monster fights, beautiful cinematography, cool special FX, and some engaging human characters. As the series is mostly gaged towards children, parents may want to take some caution as the film contains some nasty shootings, a creepy scene aboard a cruise ship, and over-the-top blood spurts during the monster fights. Nonetheless it's still highly recommended to monster and sci-fi fans of all ages.
