A: Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day) Also, Nest Cam only takes around 4-5 hours to fully charge the battery.
Q: Can the new nest battery camera be plugged in allowing 24/7 coverage
A: Yes, when plugged in, it will record 24/7. WARNING -- this camera can not be viewed in the old Nest app, only in the Home app. ALSO, since this camera is not being "added" to the Nest "environment", it can not be viewed with a browser!
A: Google sells longer power cords for this camera separately. They are available in ~15feet & ~30feet. The prices are $34.99 & $39.99. You can also use an extension cord if you need more length.
Q: If my internet goes down will these cameras upload the video once internet returns?
A: Yes. The Nest Cam (Battery) can continue to record and save events to their internal memory, and then upload the video to the cloud when they reconnect to the Nest service.
A: The reality is that it depends on what generation of camera you are using. Most of the newer Nest cameras from Google only allow video event viewing and not scrubbing and only work in the Google Home app. If you want the video scrubbing feature, you will need to buy an older Nest camera that will work in the Nest app. For me, the moment they take this feature away from older cameras (if they do), I will dump my six cameras and move to a new camera setup because this is why I invested so much into my Nest camera system. I was all in on Nest - smoke alarms and thermostat too. (Feeling a little abandoned)
A: I just returned this camera, because of this issue. You can't view this NEST camera in the NEST app! Google is forcing people to sue their "Home" app. Two reasons I returned this camera -- (1) I now need to use the Home app and the Nest App, because certain Nest devices do not appear in the Home app. (2) MORE IMPORTANTLY -- you can not view this new camera from a browser!
Q: Can I use the camera without the subscription?
A: Hey there, Lawrence! Thanks for your interest. Yes, the Nest Cam (battery) comes with 3 hours of event video history, and you can stream live video for free in the Google Home app. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to receive advanced features. Learn more about what you can get with the Nest Aware here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233159
Q: Can an extension cord be used if a plug is not nearby?
A: Hi there, Poindexter! No, we don’t recommend using an extension cord. To ensure the safety, security and protection of both Nest Cam (Battery) and the cable that you will use, especially if you will place it outdoors, it’s always a better option to use the Nest Cam Weatherproof cable instead. After reading all the terrible reviews I felt like I should leave some constructive feedback for those on the fence. I have now had the two pack for two weeks. I have used the nest doorbell cam for a few years and also have a nest thermostat. I do love using the nest app but I don't mind transitioning to the google home app either. Change is hard but it's bound to happen in technology. Luckily I also have many google home speakers and google's mesh wifi so I am somewhat familiar with the app. I have had these cameras set up as both battery and now I have them set up hardwired. I made this change due to the lack of notifications at night. I would walk out in my drive way during the day and it would have no issue picking me up. I walked out at night and I would have to get right in front of it for it to kick on and record it as an event. I decided to up my current nest subscription to the plus version and these cameras work great with being on 24/7. If you are serious about security, having the plus subscription is a necessity.

People are throwing a fit over having to use two apps when all you have to do is hit "Cameras" in the Google Home app to see all of your cameras. The only reason I could see throwing a fit over the Nest app is if you were using it on a browser. Work around? Use Bluestacks and add your google account on there. Problem solved. I also own a Nest Doorbell and Temperature Sensors around the house. Switching takes like two seconds. Complaining about the battery life? It automatically estimates a time frame to where your battery will die. Mine has been sitting at 1 week for days now even though I initially thought they were losing charge incredibly quick. To be fair though, I do wish the battery life was improved. Setup was a breeze, drilled two screws, added to google app and they were ready to go. Events are 50/50, sometimes they will detect the end of vehicles moving on the zone I have but it'll detect people a mile away. If you want to use your Nest Aware subscription you will have to buy an additional cable to plug these into an outlet. The microphone on these cameras are actually INSANE. It can pick up audio EXTREMELY well. Video quality is pretty meh... but having them wireless makes up for that. Familiar faces still work relatively well. But overall, I'd give these a 3. While I had no issues with the camera themselves, you might tilt because you cant use the Nest app. Events could also use some improvements, but that could be a simple update to fix. Battery life is okay, but also could use some improvement. I'm just glad Nest finally came out with a wireless solution. Definitely a good entry point, but you'll have to decide on how important some features are to you.

I generally like my NEST cameras. These are kind of a toss up as any battery powered cameras would be. There are settings use use to make it more sensitive to motion and sound, that affect battery life. Also the temperature can affect the battery life. I do like the video quality I get from them. They can be set up wired for power, but that will limit where they can be placed.
