Awesome Upgrade
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My house has a massive screen door on it that blocks the use of the peep hole, so a doorbell like this was more for security reasons and less for smart home functionality. However, this is a great option for a smart door bell. Pros: 1. Clean audio and crisp HD video. The most important feature of a smart doorbell is the camera and audio, the wide angle of this camera helps pick up the entire entry way to my house as well as the door so you can see as people enter/exit. Great! 2. Customizability: probably a feature of all smart doorbells, but you can actually turn the chime off and just receive notifications on your phone! huge bonus when we just had a newborn that we don't want to disturb! 3. Google. i'm a huge google fan and being the largest ecosystem of products just means your future-proofing yourself as the smart home universe evolves 4. Design: obviously a subjective metric, but i love the style of this. i also paired it with an elago Wall Plate for even cleaner look 5. Easy-ish install. if you've ever replaced a light switch in your house, this is pretty much as easy as that. Figure out what fuse your bell is on, locate the transformer, and you're good to go. Google also has a great video on the YT 6. "Plug and Play" Packaging: the system comes with a drill bit, screws, and wall anchors for mounting the doorbell. Cons: 1. Sloppy-ish Install: living in arizona, our homes are textured stucco on the outside. the non-flat surface makes mounting this somewhat difficult. also, the hole pattern for the bell is only slightly larger than the diameter of the standard round doorbell that comes on every house. This meant the wall anchors did not grip well. also the bell was too narrow to cover the hole left behind the original doorbell. i opted for lag bolts and the above mentioned elango Wall Plate. If you already have the bolts, the wall plate is less than $15 and makes for a much more professional install. 2. Still too soon integration: yes, you're future-proofing yourself by going with google, but the Nest Hello is still not fully integrated with the Google Home app, which seems to be the main hub app for Google going forward. This means there's not too much integration with the rest of your smart home. However, this will probably not be in issue in 5 years. let's face it, this is a set it and forget it type of product 3. Runs a little hot: can't compare with other bells, because i did not try any, but it will be a little warm to touch. not that it's a risk to you but if you have anything you don't want heating up, keep it a little clear. Also concerned how this will fare in the AZ summer, so we'll see 4. Responsiveness of alerts: with any doorbell system there is going to be a slight delay between a live action at the front door and the system notifying you. Same goes for you speaking to the visitors if you use that feature from your phone. This can be annoying to some people but comes with the territory All in all, great device, well worth it, wouldn't replace it.

Nice doorbell cam!
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this nest doorbell after a recommendation from a friend. At my previous home I had a ring doorbell for about 3 years and I think this one is way better. I ended up buying some nest cameras to go along with it because I liked it so much. I like the face recognition and the quality of the video is better than ring was.

Reliable and Indispensable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my Nest doorbell around Black Friday while at a discount. I was at first apprehensive to do a self installation and called a few Nest recommended pro installers. However, it would have cost as much as the item to install. I followed the steps in the app and the installation was easy. The set up was a breeze and it connected quickly to my wifi. I set the video quality as automatic and it works flawlessly. You can customize the area being watched and the notifications can be tailored to your liking. I have added my whole family and it's learning to recognize the familiar faces vs strangers. From work, I was able to answer the UPS and FedEx delivery drivers. The conversation was clear on both sides and the video quality was clear despite my weak signal in my work area. Very impressed with this doorbell and it has become Indispensable to my household.

Great doorbell for your Google ecosystem!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already had Google's products in my house so it only made sense to get the Google Nest doorbell cam as well. The notifications I get when it sees a known person is great as it announces it on my other Google devices. The only flaw I've noticed is that the zones that you can configure to only capture motion in aren't very accurate. I've told it to only alert me when it sees motion on my porch but I'll still get them for things in my yard or even the street. However I'm sure this technology will improve.

Great Doorbell Camera but needs a built-in ringer.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first Google Nest Doorbell Camera died after 2 weeks. We got a replacement and it works great but doesn’t have a ringer. It picks up sound from 2 blocks away as there’s nothing across from our house for 2 blocks. It starts recording our regular mail carrier before she even is in sight and has recorded punks checking our locked cars to see if they can steal something. You do need to subscribe to the recording service and download a few apps on a device like your phone or iPad, but it’s worth it for piece of mind. Night video isn’t is great but it’s better than Ring doorbell. You can use it with Google Nest Hub to speak with any one at your door once they’ve rang the the doorbell.

Excellent security camera
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nest Hello works great and the video is good. Night vision pretty good too. The transformer in my house is 16v 10A and it works with the Hello. Other competing doorbells would have required me to wire in another transformer. Nest Hello is a great addition especially if you have other Nest products. You can manage it all in the Nest app, or access it in the Google Home app. Streaming the doorbell video to my Chromecast TV is great. I ask Google Assistant to show my front door and the TV switches inputs and shows the live video. The 4:3 aspect ratio is great because it shows people head to toe, and also I can see my patio where packages are left.

Q: QuestionMy existing doorbell is at a height of 40 inches and on a side wall from the door 90 degrees. Will the the nest doorbell at this height and angle be able to capture faces of a person who is 6 feet tall?
Asked by Deni.
- A:Answer I had the same question and found that Nest recommends 48 inches

Q: QuestionDoes the doorbell have to be pressed in order for it to start video recording? Or does it start recording as soon as motion is detected?
Asked by DoubleA.
- A:Answer DoubleA, that will largely depend on if you pay for their recording services or not. You get 30 days of Nest Aware for free, and while you have that or any other subscription, it actually records 24 hours a day, but how long that video is kept is dependent on which package you're paying for. You also have some liberties in setting up what you want to be alerted for as the Nest can determine the difference between a person and a pet, and can alert you only if it sees a person nearby, or if it detects any motion at all. If anyone rings it, it will automatically notify you and provide a clip of that person walking up to the door.

Q: QuestionDoes this doorbell use a lot of wifi data? I do not have an unlimited wifi plan so worried if it's constantly recording it will use up a bunch of data.
Asked by Raleighgirlie.
- A:Answer You can adjust the data usage and image quality. It ranges from 30gb to 300gb a month based on setting you choose.

Q: QuestionJust got my Nest Hello. Quick question. It rings on all of my Google Home devices (we have 7). Is there a way to specify WHICH Google Home devices it will ring on? Really don't want it ringing in the kids rooms after they've gone to bed
Asked by SweatyPalms.
- A:Answer At this time there isn't a way to specify which Google Homes announce when someone is at the door, but we're working on getting this updated.

Q: QuestionDoes this have simultaneous 2-way audio, or do you have to press a button to talk? I have the August doorbell and you have to push to talk and it works terribly.
Asked by wizard8080.
- A:Answer Once the person at the door presses the doorbell, it starts listening. You then get an alert on your phone that you can tap to run the Nest app and view who is at the door. At that point, you can tap the microphone and begin speaking to the person. The person on the outside doesn't need to keep pressing anything, the Nest is listening. The only thing you need to do on your end is activate the microphone with one tap. You can have a conversation with the person at the door. You can then deactivate the mic by tapping the mic button on your phone.

Q: QuestionIs there a monthly service fee involved with the NEST?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes and no. You don’t have to pay but if you want the camera to record 24/7, then yes you pay. Otherwise it will be just a video doorbell and not a camera that continuously records. I pay $50/yr for 5 days. You could pay $100/yr for 10 days, or $300/yr for 30 days.
